All other top clubs that operate properly with those ideas in mind have a CEO and a DOF, why would we be any different? You cannot have one person running a football club, just not possible.

But there is not just one, there is a whole team of which one is the head and he will have the the final say, Dane Murphy.

Obviously the DOF reports in to the CEO as they do at other successful clubs that operate this model, all have  other a CEO and a DOF. Why would you not want that if you are going for that structure and model? Dane cannot be on the training ground of youth teams and first teams all of the time and be a good CEO and the responsibility that role brings. Top clubs operate that way.

I think it depends on who the CEO is. If the CEO comes from a football background like Dane does then in my opinion once you have your trusted team in place at all levels like Dane has then I personally don't see where a DOF would fit in.

If a CEO doesn't have a football background though and he has more of a business background like Mark Arthur for example who wasn't a football man like Dane is then I can see a position for a DOF in a situation like that.

That is my take on it.

My take is the time you require to actually be able to do 2 jobs, both equally important in there own right. Both are full time roles, one man cannot undertake both roles. Time does not allow, you cannot be half arsed in either, they both need full commitment. Like I said all the top clubs using this model have both so why shouldnt we.

We are are aspiring for champions league level facilities so the staff are needed mate to implement a champions league operating club strategy.

We are not a top club MR we are at the bottom of the second division.

I am sure that there would be some significant changes should we get promoted but at this moment we are what we are.

Sniffer, if Dane spreads himself to thinly by overseeing all matters including taking on the DOF role we probably wont see the best of him. You need a full management structure at the club and a DOF is you continuity guy on all aspects relating to the footballing side of the club. Should the CEO leave then we would not have that area covered if he was combining both roles as you suggest. I also take on your point regards not being the large club that we all aspire to be in the future, however putting the right and complete structure in place now will allow that day to arrive earlier hopefully with a DOF having planned matters for that eventuality.

Why are we at this point after 4 years you may ask? Some of the answers are probably within that answer.

Hence why we need to get It right. I'm a huge advocate of that style and the reasons why I want it to be done properly. Clubs lower down the pyramid than us do it.....

Isnt Gary Brazil de facto Director of Football?

His official title is Director of Professional Development which effectively makes him Murphy's right hand man.

I hope is, as we would be in safe hands. But we have another officially listed DOF which is where the question originally came from, as it is a key role to make this new strategy work now.

I think this is the problem. We place too much emphasis on the job titles. This is what I was trying to say, Dane is the head of the team:

Murphy
Brazil
Syrianos
Perperidis

Do the job titles really matter?

Without seeing the job descriptions it is hard to work out. But there is an undeniable attempt to create a structure behind the scenes to connect all areas of the club. This is the True North. We have just got a new coach more aligned and picked by the new CEO who has just got his feet under the table.
Despite the calamity that was the first team I have it on good authority that CH did indeed contribute and was consulted regarding the changes that need to be made and probably why he was given more time. He will never get any credit for that and for me he has himself to blame in how rigid he was in the first team set up. The DOF is indeed well respected by the players but I think he is more player liaison and eyes and ears to others up the food chain. Karanka and O’Neil didn’t like his influence but Sabri embraced it.
The previous managers have all been respected when it has come to which players they want to work with or not hence the bomb squads. That now should change hopefully as I’d guess that has been where waste has been. You are always going to get some players not work out as expected but with the structure in place now those mistakes in theory should be reduced significantly.
I can see us start to rise - the academy have been nothing short of amazing in their step up to CAt1.
I hope this is a new dawn - it’s what many of us have asked for a long time.

It's obvious that Dourekas is not a DOF despite being listed as one. I mean how many times do you see his name mentioned? When we sign players or make appointments his name is never mentioned. Even DT doesn't mention him.

Brazil is doing the DOF job although he's not listed as being the DOF.

Can we get back to the Academy now :)
