The knee, Var, Covid, ESL everything i see happening or trying to happen in football is alienating me, add the hype, cheating, time wasting, poor refs, more hype, and more cliche'd and deteriorating pundits, because of the sensitivity of what you can actually say the punditry and take on games makes everything even more narrow and less interesting

For me 'they' keeping hyping up the game, whereas primarily it was a fun passionate distraction but now even if we can go to a game it's very difficult to be spontaneous and impossible go to an away game, home games prior to covid it was a bit of a nightmare buying a ticket last time i went, be easier to get to and in the kremlin with a Putin is a tosser T shirt on

hence i've lost virtually all interest in football, and most of the stuff that is accepted as norm now i really hate, namely the hype, the knee, var, the crappy refs, timewasting, no wonder the whole industry now depends on hype because the substance is gone, i actually miss the corrguated iron, really smelly toilets and the intense partisan hostility, that is really what it was about

regards the coming season i wish 1 of the mainstream TV channels could put on a few live games, the irony is you watch the highlights on quest and even before covid most of the grounds were less than half full, it's almost like the whole of football ticketing assumes you are trouble, racist, criminal and wanting a fight, sort a big irony with all the 'football is for everyone' type message being inculcated everywhere

Sorry fella's i know i can't think of anything positive for the coming season, it used to be 2 or 3 new signings and if things were going well you'd take another top teams best player, but now i don't even know what a good player is anymore and prior to a new season players are only available in batches of 10, hence the thread title? the good the bad the ugly

but it's ok to cheat to get opposing players sent off, I do like Jack Grealish as player but i hate his cheating, over reacting, drama queen stuff, but, that the latter is now what makes a good player, the ability to win free kicks and get opponents carded and sent off, i actually think that is probably what the scouts are primarily focussed on

Times change, yes, half the lower league clubs grounds are 60% empty, who knows how many will start going out of business

I only watch football now to admire the demise and the fake hype papering over all the cracks, the stewards are the new thugs with a politically correct protector veneer

The English league is really partisan driven, the bigger the game the bigger the hate, though it's been a while since we've had a 'big game' at the city ground maybe you've forgotten, but pretend as much as you like but whenever or if ever Man U or Derby or Leicester visit, hate and tension rules supreme

You can wear your hot pants and have rainbow coloured hair as much as you like but you won't go near a football ground when it's big game, the neanderthal comes out in everyone, but maybe magic is gone, everyone can see through the plastic and the money and find something worthwhile to do

They were great days but it can be dressed up how somebody wants to dress it up.

I would regularly go to home and away matches with my girlfriend at the time and nobody ever asked her to get her tits out.

Also I don't recall any blacks or asians being assaulted either, perhaps one or two bits of light hearted banter but nothing worse than that but that worked both ways because I had black girlfriends too and I heard some of the things that their brothers and family used to say about me at the time.

I get the point you are trying to make SM but I think you are over doing it a bit and stretching it a bit.

Anyway this thread is going to get locked up soon the way it's heading if we don't get back to talking about football.

I'm with Sniff, you cant just pick out the worst bits, there were good things too. And a lot of the issues back then were societal issues, which manifested themselves in football. 

Re the actual football, we may not have been paying to watch top world stars, but it didn't affect the enjoyment of the games. Great players will always be great players. Great teams always great too. I'd go back to the actual football of the 70's and 80's (my childhood) any day.

Bloody hell Tricks, how old are you, 90 or something? I can vaguely recall my Dad paying £1.60 for me to stand in the Bridgford End as a juvenile in the early to mid 80's.
