What Is The Clubs Transfer Strategy

Do we envisage a genuine summer ‘overhaul’ this year? Assuming we are still in the CH (big assumption, noted), realistically this a great chance to really get rid of so much of the bloated squad and rebuild proper. I certainly hope so, we are a really poor team to watch with multiple decent components that simply don’t combine to make something better.

It would be insane not to keep Hughton given his second season track record.

11 players out of contract this Summer.

The squad is a mish mash of previous sacked managers.

We need to get the squad shaped and unified under a proven manager who knows what he is doing.

Out of contract 2021:

Diallo - Thank you good bye!
Christie - goes back to Fulham would CH try and sign him perm?? Are there better out there for a bit more money??
Dawson - will he transition into coaching and doing his badges with a role at the academy? His playing days are certainly over.
Sow - it was revealed that there may have been a deal to sell him in place of not for the injury in Jan, I think Garner shows there are younger and better out there.
Garner - goes back and maybe loaned to a low end prem or newly promoted side next season?
Ameobi - will be 29 by the summer does he have one more good year in him??
Knockaert, Freeman, Krovinovic - all three go back perhaps we try and get Filip back not sure on knockers though
Murray - I have a feeling CH may offer him another 6 months or pay as you play deal???
Hefele - good riddance

Other players not out of contract:

Ioannou, Carvalho, Da Costa - I believe there may be assumptions that all three have options to buy that may be taken up in the summer.

Jenkinson, Figueiredo, Blackett, Ribeiro, Bong, Bachirou. Do the club work on finding the exit door for these over the summer and jan windows and look at better/younger back up either buying or promoting from the academy? I feel Fullbacks defo needs strengthening

Getting Jenkinson off the books is almost more appealing than bringing in a new RB for me, he’s on a good size wage indeed in the region of 25k - and that is likely the reason there is no way he is leaving. But the rest are all possible. It would just be so refreshing to offload the majority of the squad and really start again, we’ve needed it for so long now! 

Better days on the horizon. Stay up this season with the dross we have, transform next, up the one after - heard it hear first ;)

We have 25 players ( including youngsters) who are currently contracted for season 21-22. Of those there are 12 who are either on loan, not getting the squad or rarely appearing, you dont need me to tell you who they are but moving on some would be beneficial to all parties. We hope the likes of McGuane and Johnson will be first team next season too.
Its a big enough squad with a few additions, I hope the more sensible and sustainable approach we saw in January continues, we dont need the massive overhaul some are suggesting.

Whilst Samba, Worrall, Yates, Grabban, Ameobi, Bachirou, Ribeiro have their limitations they are good enough to build a competent and competitive Championship team around

Once all the loans go back and out of contract players are released we will need to bring in another load of players/signings otherwise we won't have a full squad.

At the minute, based on who is at the club the team would be:

Samba

Mckenna
Jenkinson
Yates
Cafu
Johnson
Ameobi
Mighten
Grabban

No-one really thinks that team would be particularly competitive right? 

Depending on how the season continues I would say continuity with the loans could be possible. So trying to renew Garner/Krov/Knockaert in permanent or loan form would help retain consistency. I would think the Garner would seems pretty likely if he plays well, seems to suit all parties. 

Hypothetically, we sign the three above, I would say that leaves us needing two full backs and a striker? Not unreasonable I don't think.

An in form Colback and Lolley would add to that too?

I think on reasonable form that team isnt far off. Clearly the RB situation would need sorting -  Christie on a permanent would do me. After a few awful games early on he has settled down and been a decent Championship RB.

If more go out the door (Arter especially) and CH gets one or two in (who knows a year deal for Murray might be what people are clamouring for if he gets 6 or 7 more goals this season) that's a team that could challenge. 

As always luck with injuries and players getting in a good rhythm matters. 

However, the biggest factor is Hughton getting the culture he wants embedded. Sounds like he is on his way with that.

Ha I think you missed my point, that team without the loan players is nowhere near good enough to challenge. Hence our current league position.

I also think we can do better than Christie, why target mediocrity? 

I think we'll know more in the next few months, if we do improve and go on a good run then it will make the current loanees very appealing and would be great if we could have a similar team to next season.

Sign Krov, Garner and Knockaert again and although would be 3 new signings, they would be consistent. Obviously a lot depends on their availability too

No way United will sell Garner they rate him highly. We might get another loan if we are lucky though but even that might be difficult, I would imagine the likes of Burnley etc will try to loan him.
