John Robertson buries the ball in the back of the scousers net after Phil 'Big Conk' Thompson had hacked down John O' Hare in the League Cup Final Replay at Old Trafford in 1978.

I was standing just a young kid to the left of that goal. A great night that I will never ever forget.

I was standing just a young kid to the left of that goal. A great night that I will never ever forget.

I was stood just to the left of the goal as you look at it also. Managed to get into the ground about 15 minutes late, battered and bruised after Man Utd fans attacked us, calling us scousers FFS! Coppers just stood by and let them attack us, bearing in mind there were a few from our minibus that were much older than us, possibly coming up to pension age. Disgusting Manc bastards!!!

But watching the cup being lifted at the end certainly made up for it!

i agree, i love the pictures, i miss the 70's though unfortunately i wasn't really there at all, i mean 1978, mmm, i was probably listening to Judas Priest ... Unleashed In The East or UFO ... 'Strangers In The Night' and sniffing Zoff

If it helps Tricky, i was a Man U supporter in 1976 and about 11 and in a form group, ages from me 1st year, 2nd, 3rd ... upto 6th and upper 6th, i think every single 1 of them got involved, though Man U also got relegated around '76 season and i took 1 hell of a beating as well, scarf and pom pom hat included, though if anything i think most were Stags fans as it was in Mansfield ... wish i had a picture of that! At least i wasn't glory hunting.

Is that the Main Stand behind? The photo is a bit before my time.

Looks like the old Main Stand to me, I remember there was a Pen either side where some of the reserve players stood, you can see the pen on the left, seems like yesterday watching The King of The Trent End
