I think with Colback in the side we will not be sat so deep; defending further up the pitch should not leave the midfield so stretched.
Be nice to see at least one more forward option because we desperately need to get more players into the box
What do you mean?
We sit far too deep, particularly at home
Sitting that deep always seemed related to the personal at your disposal.
eg. Maybe the defenders are slow. Or the midfield is 'limited/pedestrian/slow/lacks attacking players.'
Or both in Forest's case.
Forest's defence and midfield were not top 6.
SA.
So you are not buying into the concept that you can have coaches/managers that choose to play with a low compact defensive block even though they have "good" players with pace and mobility at their disposal?

The league position showed that recruitment didn't buy into it.
Need better players.
It doesn't matter what I believe.
Forest finished 7th. And the abject nature of the trough parts of the season tells its own story.
Forest didn't have the players for plan b or good enough players to do plan A.

You can choose what system you like. But players win you games.

Players do win you games but choosing the best system to implement can drastically increase or decrease your chances of winning the game. The intention for this thread was after all to discuss the possibility of changing our basic set up / formation / playing style so in that sense it do matter what you believe :D
And I think we tend to overreact a bit regarding last season performance. We didn't lose out on 6th place on points but on one single goal but I do agree that we need better players as I do believe that we should aim for a top 2 finish this coming season.

Of course the system and the tactics make a difference, otherwise why bother paying good money to employ a first team coach?
Sabri got more out of our group of players than would be expected. According to overall player quality (wages), we ought to have finished around 12th the last couple of seasons rather than 9th and 7th. That overachievement had a lot to do with the high quality coaches nffc have employed in that time (as well as other key factors such as EM’s ownership culture of excellence).

There aint no over reacting regarding last season's collapse. It was shocking. Spineless. A complete collapse. A gutless final match had Forest thrown unceremoniously out the play offs.
A stress fracture that came to pass as the imperious talisman, Sow...just sat down on the grass.
Forest didn't have the players to do top 6. When Sow failed. So did Forest. Both their top 6 runs coincided with a fit Sow.
Counter attacking football is alright. Clough and Taylor managed it. But it was also direct and robust. They had great players. They got recruitment right.
The new regime are still coming round to the dawning realisation that this is the Championship and English weather has winters, rain...dark nights...a wed/sat/wed schedule.
Forest need to recruit for any given style they play. With depth for more than a fit 1st eleven.
That will involved some muck and nettles players. Athletes who had last 97 minutes. And yes. They need to play a bit too.
Character. Not enough of that in the side. A low 'Psycho' count.

Forest have had numerous managers. Numerous systems during exile.
But they're still in the Championship.
The players and recruitment was not good enough.
It's a character test for this league.
And Forest haven't passed the test.
Getting Colback and Lyle are a good start in the direction they need to do in.

i think it was 2 goals
every game we started off brightly, had more possession, had chances, looked good ... we either lost or dropped points
no wins in the last 6
it's a difficult hangover to get over this one i'm afraid, really difficult
coming out and saying the style is gonna change, this is the philosophy, 'we gonna score our way out the league' might of helped, but as usual no word from the death star mother ship, we just don't do PR, not saying that it was a bad idea to rearrange the seating on the titanic or anything

Dreadful.
The result? Ignominy.

The problem is.............where are these players you say we need? How much would each one cost? Are they even available?
We all know what is needed, but what we want and need and what we can actually afford or obtain are two entirely different things. :s

Forest weren't exactly rolling in cash when Clough and Taylor took over.
Did they spend a fortune in the old division 2?
It's up to recruitment to pull their finger out and find the players. If Brentford can do it... And coach players to be better. We do have the fine Academy to draw upon.
I don't get paid to know such things. So I probably have little idea. Problem is. Neither did recruitment in January! :P
As for availability. Perhaps the dawn of a new era. We got Colback and a couple more in nice and early.
Perhaps hope springs eternal?

i'm out of the area so hopefully a totally incorrect feeling
it all feels empty and souless
i wish we had someone who could communicate, talk to us like we had a few brain cells, that's what we really miss about Clough and Taylor, the communication, it's meant to be an entertainment industry, a manager should be able to speak and explain stuff and even inspire
with Sabri, we all love the guy and the results were doing all the talking and his pitch side passion, but when the results dry up, well, seems like we're left with a black hole and a death star mother ship, not easy to nurture that sort of relationship, i'm struggling
