The question I would pose is “Does this club have a coherent strategy for promotion?”
And the answer IMO would be "no"
And you know what? I can live with that if we just stop the bullshine PR spin that we're top contenders, and act accordingly.
Give a (good) manager for a few years to build a proper side, stop flogging academy players, and give us a team we can be proud of & develop a connection to.
It's not all about the Prem. The Championship is fun. What is annoying though is starting every campaign knowing that in a few months time it'll be all change again, and the 2nd half of the season will be a pointless reshuffle & game of catchup for the Nth year running.
It's 2019 Alf. The game has changed.
The two points highlighted above...
1. Never going to happen in this day and age.
2. For owners of football clubs especially the ones in the PL and top half of the Championship it IS all about the PL.

Im not bothered about the prem either to be honest, albeit i want my team to be successful, of course.
Norwich got stuffed last night at Anfield. Where's the fun in that?

Re giving mangers time to build a team, it is proven to work. Wilder slowly built Sheff Utd over 3 years to get them where they are. Farke had 2 years with Norwich, he finished 14th in his first season.
Does anyone believe Lamouchi will survive us finishing 14th this season? Me neither.

Wilder & Farke would suggest otherwise.
THe latter was just a personal preference, but I still think for a club with our budget building is a better approach than changing things each yaer until something works.

I think what Duncan is trying to get across is that it might be your personal preference but it's not going to happen. 2 years like Farke might happen at a stretch but a few years like Alf mentioned, never going to happen.

Thanks Salvatore, it was tongue in cheek
and no it doesn’t look like it does have a strategy.
Can any of the many right footed centre backs do a Paul warhurst and be converted into a striker?

Being someone who reads a lot and who talks a lot in football circles that is not true unfortunately.
Just wanted to respond to this point and say that it’ll be much more difficult for people to doubt the owner’s intentions once the work is being done on the ground. Ground investment is surely the proof of a long term investment as you won’t see the benefits for a long period of time.
Until then I’m sure there’ll be a few doubters out there but there’s clearly investment there. I’m hopeful still

I just want us to be competitive. We were with Karanka hence the frustration. O’Neill disappoints me as obviously just used as a stop gap and a punt to try and make playoffs. I feel really uncomfortable with the DOF on pitchside but this is the way we are going with a continental approach where everything apart from the coach is stable and long term. Less disruption when the coach changes I suppose.
The problem I can see is the recruitment has left us with a bloated squad of no sell on value what-so-ever and FFP could end up biting. Leeds for example are millions up on net spend without significantly wearing their squad. We don’t have that. Also blocked the academy players route as I can’t see Johnson and Richardson playing much with the amount of signings made. For example - play Jayden Richardson for 10 games and he does well- we could have a 5-10m asset on our hands...play Johnson for 10 games and gets a couple of goals and assists and a 10m asset. Instead they will probably go to L1 club for experience but it won’t have the same effect on asset value even if they have a stormer.

Then we're never going up unless the club invests significantly for a string of windows.
That's my whole point. It probably isn't going to happen. And that's why we probably aren't ever gonna go up.
How many years on the spin do we have to do the same thing over & over until we realize that it doesn't work?
7 years out of 7 we've sacked managers mid-season. 7 out of 7 years we've finished lower than where the manager who started the season had us.......
SOD 7th - Mcliesh 13th - Davies 8th
Davies 7th - Brazil 11th
Pearce 12th - Dougie 16th
Dougie 14th - Williams 16th
Monty 20th - Warbs - 21st
Warbs 13th - AK 17th
AK 7th - MON 9th
It's quite frankly unreal that those running the club still think constant change is the answer.

Nothing has worked Alf over the last 20 years, with various owners, various managers, various strategies. Nothing. Not sure why you keep signalling out the present owners for criticism. They have only been here a few months.

1 thing we've never successfully tried is getting a good manager and backing him with both time & money. It's always been get a good manager ala Davies, SOD or AK and pull the rug from under themin some way, or invest plenty in a pipe dream with someone crap like McClaren.
Criticism is directed at the current owners because they are the ones in charge, but I apply that to both previous owners.

21st -> 17th -> 9th -> ?
The trend is up since the Greeks took charge. Despite your negativity the evidence shows that they are getting things right on the pitch.
