Double Header - Nottingham Forest - Leeds United

About as expected, I really didn’t want to play them first match. Leeds are well drilled, disciplined and make games painful, but we got the better of it after about half an hour and were the better side without creating a lot. Could have been winning if not should have been, but got mugged by a free kick at the end.

Deeply frustrating result and feeling down but the performance wasn’t that bad. I think a more natural wing back would have helped, eg Neco crossing on the outside with his left foot a couple of times could have been a chance if he was left footed. And when Wood was through but scuffed it it was hard not to think of that centre forwatd we haven’t signed yet (although Delap doesn’t score that either).

Let’s hope Santa Marinakis delivers us those couple of players that can help make a difference this week.

Frustrating watch that- Jesus does so much right - great in build up- wins 60 / 40 balls - gets into great positions with clever movements but just doesn’t have that killer instinct.

Also CHO should have been on for Morgan or Sangare with MGW dropping into a deep position.

Please let Murillo take the next free kick to the right of the d

Agree with this, offers something different.

I dunno, feel like the system needs rapid wing backs especially in transition when Neco is solid defender who is limited in the attacking sense. Wood miss Will look worse if I see it again I think. Jesus just wasn't tall enough for his rebound chance.

Ultimately don't think the 10s looked particularly threatening. All in good time and no-one is saying this was anything but a tough game but we're a fair bit off breaking the top 10 which I anticipate is the aim for this season

Awful game and a crap atmosphere.

Any other manager bringing on Kali in the 93rd minute gets slated.

At least we can only get better.

Right?

Think the reserves will show the way on Tuesday to be honest

First thoughts

Im not a huge fan of 3421, not convinced we have the squad for it.
Defensively OK until the goal.
You can see how important wing backs are to the system, desperately need another one and it needs to be quality.
Looked toothless upfront, no cutting edge apart from MGW yet again. He cant do it alone.
I really want McAtee to work as an 8. Worth persevering for now but lets just say there’s work to do there.
Need a goal scorer
Disappointed we didn’t make a bigger effort for a quality keeper, Trafford was an excellent buy for them.
Other than that deserved a point. Disappointing but we were far from terrible.

One thing I never understand, why don't we put a player on the post for free kicks. If we had one there today, there was no way he could shoot and would have had to cross the ball and we were coping OK with that.

Id agree we were far from terrible. On another day it might've been us that grabbed the goal and if so, we'd be all saying how well we did for a first game out under this new system.

I watched the sunderland away and palace away games from last season the other night. Todays performance was a million miles off that level of performance but we have to start somewhere.

I too am not a big fan of  3421 but I'm going to remain positive about it in the hope things will be better in a few games time.

Do we play a strong side on Tuesday? Looks like the system needs games to me.

To be fair I think everyone expected him to lash it top bins back post in the hope someone would knick it in.

I see our current record signing didn’t even make the bench.

Is he injured or on the way out? Either way he seems to be 6th choice for a number 10 slot.
