Is Promotion Still Possible?

I couldn't understand why Dias was picked, and why Carvalho was on the bench, we play better, and are more of an attacking threat when Carvalho starts.

The only thing I could think off is that O'Neill was getting to know who was who, and what they are capable off on the pitch.

I hope he learns pretty quickly, and makes his mind up who needs to go.

Yeah I agree about how to fit Carv in, swap him for Murphy or yacob and be aggressive? Honestly don’t think we played that badly even game just didn’t take our chances. Bristol city are also a good side currently in 7th.

The QPR game was significantly worse

Hi everyone......................good to be back.

I don't honestly see Martin sticking with a 4-4-2 for the rest of the season. He hasnt had any time to see what players are capable of playing in any differing formation and I feel he opted for the 4-4-2 for simplicity in picking a side for today.

He needs time to assess his squad and the strengths and weaknesses of each of those players.

Promotion this season? not for me, no. But a stead improvement on the first half of the season would be more than satisfactory given the recent events we have again had to endure.

This was the day that any reasonable chance of promotion ended.
I cannot think of anything ( with the possible exception of the new centre half who I thought had a decent debut ) positive to come out of today.
If Martin can condemn 4:4:2 to the ‘never again’ bin then I suppose today may have been worthwhile.
For me if MON is the future then he should be allowed to use the remainder of this season in moulding a promotion team for next - including the introduction of players like Appiah.

Hi Tricky, where you been?  54 points and £54m spending to go, all going to plan, by playing 4 4 2 in effect, in most areas of the pitch we were overrun and outnumbered, gave them all a gun run out and only conceded 1 against a form team, onwards and upwards my friend, they had to drag the new signing off the 17:23 to Leicester train mind

Well I’ve slept on it - and woken this morning yet more angry & disappointed than last night.
My football club - imho of course - has just thrown away the season. Any chance we had of hitting the play offs has gone ( not that I thought we’d get there anyway ).
I’m sure Marinakis remains as desperate as any of us to return to the promised land - but I can only see the reign of MON ending ( prematurely ) in failure.
It is only 1 game - and I keep reminding myself of this - but the owner may have a job on his hands to retain the current level of support & maintain the interest of 22k season card holders next season.
Sincerely hope to be proved wrong!

And my mood darkened still further after reading Nixon’s assertion that the chances of signing 3 players lined up for a Jokanovic reign have now rescinded.

We’re in a shocking run of form at the minute. We simply must start beating teams home and away. Hull looked dead and buried in November, they’ve flown up the league. We can do the same but MON has a lot of sorting out to do defensively.
Season not over yet imo, but we need to burgle a win next week somehow and get a run going

It's never been possible since the club, it's owners & board employed a "sack managers doing well for little reason" policy.

That policy has been consistanyly employed since Marthur decided Davies was disposable & easily replaced.

Whilst that policy remains, we will remain in the same vicious cycle.

Yesterday wasn’t great but we should try and remember that MON has had two days. He had to play the technically 3rd choice RB, a centre back who’s not played all season and had one training session, a LB at CB and an average left winger who’s also tiny at left back.

We were playing a side that in the middle of a now 5 game winning streak, in the end it was a fairly even game that we lost from one move. I know the clock is ticking on the season and playoffs is probably gone now but doesn’t mean we can’t step it up over the next few weeks with a few signings and at least start playing better. Also we’ve been playing shit since start of December, not since last week with the same team so seemed unrealistic to expect a sudden massive improvement with a weaker team.

Next week we’ll have fox and maybe figs back so we can get at least play closer to a proper defence. MON will have had a week to realise that carvalho has to play and that Murphy is shit and he’ll sort it out. We’ll spend £3m on a new winger and thrash Wigan...

Its a bit of a longer way than it was 4 weeks ago. We need to go on a run, 4 wins on the bounce say, to get back in contention.

On yesterdays evidence i cant see that happening, in fact, weve shown no ability to do that at all this season. But who knows? Its possible if we can get a first win and get on a roll.
