We’re 4th towards the end of Jan in touching distance of the top two. If someone offered me that at the start of the season I would’ve bitten their hand off. We’ve got as good a chance as anyone else if our luck holds out for a change.

As Forest fans we are generally struggling to put the disappointment of previous seasons behind us and expect the worse. The amount of negative stuff posted on-line is staggering (we are having the best season for years!). Enjoyed that post too Garibaldi.
For me we're a pretty average team that is solid at the back, sits in our half and trying to play on break. We rarely dominate but on the other hand rarely outplayed and usually in games even away. A pretty useful skill in a league where you can lose any game regardless of who you are.
I do think that there are a number of better teams than us but that doesn't mean they are as consistent and I think we can still edge ahead of them. The games against WBA and leeds are key to not let them get ahead again.
Not sure how you rate teams Wassy. Is it a player by player comparison or is it the sum of all or something in between?
If we take a closer look at our starting 11 I would rate each as follows:
- Samba - one of the best keepers in the Championship -> will manage the step up to PL football
- Cash - probably the best RB in the league -> will manage the step up to PL football
- Worrall - one of the best CBs in the league -> will manage the step up to PL football
- Figs and Dawson - above average CBs in the league -> probably not PL material (Dawson too old for PL)
- Ribeiro - above average LBs in the league -> early signs indicate that Ribs do have the potential to survive in the PL
- Watson - one of the best DCMs in the league (yes I do believe that) -> too old for PL
- Sow - one of the best DCMs in the league -> will manage the step up to PL football
- Lolley - one of the best wingers in the league -> will manage the step up to PL football
- Silva - at least an average winger in the league -> probably not PL material
- Ameobi - at least an average winger in the league -> probably not PL material
- Grabban - one of the best strikers in the Championship -> will manage the step up to PL football
It is difficult for me to see that there is many teams in the Championship that is better than Forest which also the league table shows. Forest are a very organized team that is very difficult to break down and we score above average number of goals.
Please keep in mind that Forest are a young team in the sense that we only have had Lamouchi for half a season. It is therefore very encouraging that we now seem to be building momentum.
Yes. It's progress in a very short (6 months) space of time.
Need fresh legs in and to 'shake the bag' to take it to the next level i.e. auto spots.
Just short of quality and depth in Striker/ACM and Winger spots.

Agreed we are doing well, my initial point was we need good backups in case of injuries, remember our dip in form came when Sow was out injured, what if Grabs gets injured? We do not have the quality on the bench to replace these players, to make top 2 we need that quality. I want top two, I don’t want to go through the agony of the playoffs, we bottle too many games for me to be confident in fact the only game I can remember we didn’t bottle was the relegation scare when Britt and Jordan saved us.
Is top 2 out of our reach? No, with the right recruitment I honestly think we can get promoted, through the playoffs not so sure, it’s not being pessimistic it’s being realistic.

Totally agree Redgirl.
And btw, Forest are the only team to have 2 players on the current Team of the Year at Whoscored.com. Guess who?

I agree Heanor Red and no matter what happens tomorrow at Brentford win, lose or draw I won't change my mind.

4th is definite progress on last season.
With Sow, they have a solid chance of 'at least' the top 6.
Depending on what happens this week, it could be the top 2.
A winger is in.
A striker pending.
And swirling rumours re: ACM.
The opportunity for top 2 is there if the Forest hierarchy want it badly enough.
This is the best chance since Billy MK I.

I’d like a left back and another cm too but I’m greedy.

Browsing on Transfermarkt I see they have estimated squad values.
According to that Forest rank 7th.
Based on that data they are performing quite well in the league, just above their value ranking.
