Joao Carvalho

This was inevitable if we got an offer. He may thrive in what I assume is a less physical league.

He was never at the level of quality of Ruben Neves signing for Wolves, though similar level of fee.
I wonder how many signings in the history of the championship are over £12M and how many of those were strikers?

.......and how many turned out to be a flop?

Pretty much every one of those players has had more impact upon the league than Carvalho.

Britt? McCormack? Hogan? Afobe? Ince? Rhodes? Kodjia?

I think many off that list have never lived up to their transfer fees...

only real successes were Gayle, Ritchie, Neves and arguably Costa.

That is quite eye opening - outstanding champonship players dont always transfer their form to other clubs in big money moves... It does explain going for value on the European market or developing own talent through Academy (us) or scouting (brentford)

Very disappointed as he was a player I enjoyed watching in his first season. I think his career has been affected massively by that Alfreton clogger, as other than at Swansea and cameo at QPR he never got back on it after the injury. Personally I would have built my team around him and Grabbs, but then I know nothing.

As an aside, when I bought my house last year, I was pleasantly surprised to find Carvalho living 3 doors down. Lovely guy whom I wish only good things for. Intrigued to see who moves in next! (Think it's a "club" house).

Much of the fee was for potential. Appointing two consecutive managers who don’t play possession football was a mistake in the context of such an investment.

He was the best player we’ve had for...? In terms of skill and vision I mean.

We should have built a team around him. On the odd occasion you saw it, the Portuguese were a step ahead of the game.

Luckily we have Yates.

Only joking.

But how much worse would it have been if we’d let JC, Silva and Ribeiro build a relationship? We just don’t give good players time, and sign s**t in the meantime.

E.g. Da Costa, Diakhaby, Bong...endless.

You can’t build a team around Carv, Silva, and Rib.

They are powder puff, and physical sides ate them for breakfast.

Silva stats were poor last season, yes he drops a shoulder on the half way line, and did the odd flip flop, but he didn’t score or assist.

Rib is just lacking physically and big forwards bully him.

Carv - talented yes, but no suggestion that he was anything more than a luxury player. His stock increased more when he was out of the side.

If Almeira have payed a large loan fee for the season and they take over the remaining installments that are owed to Benfica on Carvalho's contract we might just about get our money back or at least the financial hit won't be too bad.

Re possible reintroduction for Carvalho for next season, from Daniel Taylor when asked about JC today:

"Carvalho's a nice lad. He wanted to learn the language, so he took English lessons (paid for by himself). He bought a dog, embraced the city. Tiago Silva did not like Nottingham, but Carvalho made it his business to get involved. His girlfriend even opened a fashion boutique in the city centre. Most people would see that as a good thing, that he was putting down roots in Nottingham etc. Forest were - for reasons I will never understand - furious about it, at the top of the club. 'An effing bikini shop'. They had a real issue and seemed to think it was evidence that he was distracted(?!)."

Also said there was resentment cos he got so much attention on social media, and also that he didn't want to go to Oly, similar to Ribeiro.

Does 'top of the club' mean Vrentzos, so more likely another chance for him if IV moves on?

I find that all a bit odd. An employee puts roots down in the city where he works (5 year contract) with his family? I'd be delighted.
A very strange reaction.
