2 main reasons under Doughty and Evangelos was not investing at the right time, last season and the season under Billy ( first time round) we were doing well going into January
2 /3 top draw signings would have seen us over the line in my opinion
Especially under Billy
But the investment at that time was piss poor both times, fine margins

Short termism.

A longer term plan would have meant far less chopping and changing from one football style to another, with the associated binning of a squad of players.

Added to this we were unlucky to be lumbered with the utter disgrace which was the Fawaz ownership. It wouldn’t have mattered what was attempted then. The club was not only a joke to other football fans, but a disgrace to the people of Nottingham. I’d be supporting Derby by now if Fawaz was still the owner.

Most were at clubs who were promoted but were deemed not good enough for prem, usually signing for Forest within 12 months max. (Swop Darikwa for Blackett to be safe...)

Gave interviews saying "I know what it takes to get promoted...blah blah"

All still currently on the books of team at wrong end of table.

Most not all were greeted with cries of "this is a great signing" then struggled to match previous levels.

It's hard to point on just one reason. I think it is a mix of, lack of investment at the right time, bad managerial appointments and luck. Yes luck. I am in favour of giving time to a manager so to develop his team , but not to the stage of getting relegated, and that is our problem with most of our managers. They tend or to go on good runs that make us dream or the total opposite that scares the shit out of you nd make you want to get rid of them.
If we have to look at the Marinakis era, I know the football wasnt champagne football, but we should have let O Neill start the season. Yes, Sabris had a good 8 months but results camouflaged performances. When teams found us out that was it. We couldnt buy a win.
For most of the fans ig would be acceptable if we improved our point tally year after year at some point promotion comes. In recent years, when, or a play off finish of a good placing , is followed by a relegation struggle, why? ... most of the times the foundation of a good team is already in place but 2020 was total opposite. I read somewhere that looking at the last 30 Championship games results, we are bottom of the table !!! If that is true, that is shocking when u consider that we finished last season only a goal away from the play offs . No surprise Marinakis had a Zoom meeting with Sabri. Who was the last manager we had that had that sort of record? ... Megson? ... nd Sabri leaves Forest and ends up getting , probably, a better pay package then at Forest...

Venkys Ltd took over some 10 years ago and were immediately branded a laughing stock, sacking managers left right and centre, accusations of interference, those foreigners havent got a clue. Sound familiar? It resulted in their relegation form the PL and an ultimately unlucky one again to L1 in 2017.
Since then they refreshingly stuck by Tony Mowbray who took them down and what do you know he got them straight up again and they have slowly improved in the Championship year on year. Seems some owners can learn from their mistakes, stability reaps rewards. Trouble is that improvement may well stall for them, how much patience do their owners really have? Could our owners ever show the same patience?

PL v EFL - chalk & cheese...

Were at ‘clubs promoted’ - hence record of EFL success...

Knockaert & Freeman are loanees & hence any ‘massive contracts’ are other clubs’ problems...

Things haven’t always been as rosy though SM. Not long ago nothing could be done without the express permission of the Venky’s, was dependent on the success ( or otherwise ) of their Chicken business & entailed the manager making regular trips to India to gain clearance.
