May 2026 Where Will We Finish And What Will Happen Next
#13
I don’t care where we finish as long as we are safe and not sweating it in the last few games.

The real question about Dyche is what happens if we win the Europa?
Would he get the chance of a champions league campaign and a £200m shopping list?

I’m not so sure if Ireola or similar ‘modern’ coach were free in the summer.

I think Dyche is doing a great job and has steadied the ship after PosteNoClue. If he keeps us up then he deserves to keep the job. It’s a tough job he has been given & we are in a relegation battle, no doubt about it

For me it would be utter madness to change the manager again at the end of the season, especially if he keeps us up. He needs to be given a chance to build his team. For all the good Marinakis has done for the club, he has really screwed up this year, especially appointing his mate Clueless Ange. He needs to understand just because we’ve been in the Premier League for 4 years we are not one of the big boys and we need to build slowly and steadily. We cannot go toe to toe with the big clubs, that is suicidal.

The football under Dyche may not be exciting but he and his staff, particularly Stone and Woan, understand the club and have a great affinity to the club

I love Forest and want us to be successful again but we are no longer in the 1980s & 1990s and even if we have the financial clout to compete we aren’t allowed. Also as fans we need to be realistic. I would have loved Iriola or Glasner to have come to Forest but we are not a big club yet so why would they choose us

For me Dyche has to stay

For me this is why it is important where we will finish and why I asked for opinions on that.

Fourth bottom and an early exit from the Europa League for example and Sean will be toast.

Needless to say that I hope that doesn't happen of course.

Mid table and a good Europa League run and Sean will get another crack and rightly so.

Agree 4th bottom and out of Europa Dyche won’t get next season. However worth remembering in slightly different circumstances Nuno also finished 4th bottom in his first year and then proved he was worth sticking with (until of course dummies were spat).

Will Dyche get next season with a modest improvement this season, say a 14th place finish and a quarter final of the Europa? Bear in mind in the summer the choice for EM will be sticking with Dyche or going for a then free of charge and out of contract Silva.

I would say 14th and a QF is more than modest improvement given where we are. What evidence do you have Silva is better? Fulham seemingly close to sacking him.

Other than an existing relationship with EM I would say they’re at a similar level. Agree Dyche would go if we are relegated or survive by our fingernails but otherwise wouldn’t it be change for changes sake?

I'm pretty sure Silva would be our manager now if his buy out clause was something more modest than the high price it was reported to be. So I reckon EM rates him higher than Dyche.

And I agree 14th would be fine. But that's us fans, EM seems to judge things by a completely different metric. Come the end of the season he will have forgotten just how much in the shite Ange and Nuno left us. He'll just be looking at the table and thinking we're better than that.

I think Fulham are pissed off because Silva won't sign a new deal hence the sacking rumours.

I agree.

That’s why I pondered what would happen if he exceeds expectation and wins the europa and we find ourselves in the champions league next season.

Of course the heart says he deserves it and don’t rock the boat; but I do wonder where EM sees his ceiling and if he might be tempted to gamble on a ‘super-coach’ to take us to the next level.

Ironically, I think he’s therefore more at risk if he smashes it and wins us something rather than just treading water in mediocrity.

Despite EM's reputation when a Coach is doing well he will stand by him.

When a Coach is not doing well then he is out the door quickly.

Mendilibar now been at Olympiakos almost 2 years and before that Martins was there for 4 years because they are doing/did good jobs which is/was rewarded with loyalty.

Corbran came inbetween and like Ange at Forest got off to a terrible start and was dismissed very quickly.

So going bck to DR Forest's post above I can't see Sean being replaced if he pulled off winning the Europa League.

He would get a crack at the CL in my opinion despite the temptation to lure of a 'super coach'.

Pep described playing Dyche teams like having to go the dentist, there's huge respect there and I do wonder why it doesn't transcend to the football fans who see him as a younger Allardyce

I think we should stick with Dyche and his coaching team if he keeps us up, even if it is in 17th place. No doubt about it he has inherited a club that was in a complete mess this season and has a relegation battle on his hands.

The early signs seem to be good. He has made us more solid defensively and the team seem to be happier and responding to his coaching

We need to have continuity and build slowly not keep changing managers every season and a half. If we do survive we also need to stop buying 10 - 11 players every season and just buy 3 - 4 players that improve the team with a couple of younger players for the future.

Those are my thoughts for what it’s worth.
