What we will actually see I suspect is
Navas
Aurier Worrall Felipe Lodi
Shelvey Freuler Yates
MGW Wood Dennis

(assuming Johnson is out)

Is Wood fit though SM? He only managed 6 minutes last week before going off again.

Can't see Wood playing - I thought his injury seemed worse than Johnson's.

Johno is fine he wouldn't have even gone off if it was still 0-0 or 1-0.

It feels like Dennis has to start by default.

That’s a realistic front-foot team, but I think he may opt for ayew or freuler over Danilo depending on how adventurous he feels

Yeah Freuler will definitely start over Danilo. Ayew or Dennis will be the only interesting choice.

Unless he decides to attack and plays both and goes 4231.

Ahh was thinking Wood would start against his old club, totally forgetting
1. He cant play against the loaning club
2. He is injured anyway
Other than those minor details I reckon Cooper would have picked him!

Coops said in his presser that Newcastle have high running stats and it’s something we needed to match.
That in itself tells me Freuler and Shelvey can’t both start.
Yates for 60 mins and Kouyate replacing.
Danilo for 60 mins and Mangala replacing.
Shelvey likely to start IMO

Almost to the day, 49 years ago I was at "that" match in the Galowgate end.
I vowed not to go to an away match again as I didn't like my reversion to animal to get out of the ground.
I hope we win 4-3

Freuler runs more than any other of our players! Not saying both him and Shelvey should play though

Freuler does run a lot as does Shelvey, just neither of them do it very quickly. Glad Kouyate is back but he is slower still.

There in lies the problem, Newcastle have Saint Maximin, Isak, Willock and Almiron who are all lightning fast. We have 2 slow centre backs and a slow central midfield. Been saying for a long time we have little pace in our squad apart from Johnson. Lets see how they cope.

Its before my time so had to look it up. Came up with this to give some context for others, assume this is the game you are referring to.

Newcastle Utd v Nottingham Forest March 9, 1974
After Pat Howard was sent off and Forest went 3-1 up with a penalty, several hundred fans invaded from the Leazes End. Referee Gordon Kew took the players off for eight minutes, but when the game was restarted Newcastle came back to win 4-3 – reports suggested the linesman was too scared to flag Bobby Moncur’s winner offside. “The Newcastle supporters put us out of the Cup,” says Forest manager Allan Brown. Thirty-nine fans were charged, 23 hospitalised (two with fractured skulls) and 103 treated for minor injuries. The FA ruled that the game should be replayed at Goodison Park (“I half-expected a ridiculous solution and they came up with one,” said Malcolm Macdonald) and Newcastle won 1-0, again at Goodison, after a 0-0 draw. As a result of the trouble Newcastle were ordered to play all their 1975 Cup games away
