West Ham - Nottingham Forest

Massive win but sooooo much to improve.

On the other hand, as shocking as it is, Dyche came in with 1 win under our belt.

Yeah it's pretty difficult to know how to feel right now. It's plain to see to anyone watching our games we are struggling but Dyche has done better than Ange and got us to a position where we have a cushion.

At this point, the only debate is what happens now, I think barring winning the EL, Dyche is unlikely to be back next season. It doesn't make sense to make a change again, you won't get anyone better and just makes the club look bad and the job less appealing for the future. Hopefully we can gut it out, Dyche grinds out a few more wins and then we reassess in the summer.

It is tough to watch though, we're really not good. Dyche hasn't fixed set pieces which is disappointing as that was one of the big pluses, his in game management has been weak. The lack of rotation is frustrating, everyone watching could see a bunch of those guys were tiring. Probably can't blame him for Kali, comes across as a club decision to get rid but Jesus is struggling up top. Is Dyche watching these games thinking we're playing well? If not you'd think a change in formation or personnel just to try something different. Leeds had a massive improvement from a change of shape. Maybe with Yates, Sangare and N'Doye plus Kali essentially unavailable he doesn't feel like he has great options.

It might be a technicality, but what I won't say is that was fortunate for us. Reason being that it came from a passage of play where there was a VAR check for handball after it came off the knee of the West Ham player, and went wide of the goal. I know VAR can't overturn it, but they resumed with a goal kick when it was obviously a corner.

As for the penalty, I've seen a couple argue as his intent was the ball then it shouldn't have been a foul. But if you slide for the ball, don't get close to it and bring an opposition player down. It is a free kick.  He was closer to MGW's penalty than he was the punch, and it was a penalty every day having hit him in the face. Even Hendrie said it was, and he was siding with WHU most of the night on the commentary.

We seemed flat last night but had Neco's or CHO's effort went in, it would probably be a different story. It was never going to be a good watch with Nuno vs Dyche.

That did highlight one of the utter stupidities of VAR in my opinion. Why can't it be used to overturn other obvious errors like that one? Or when corners shouldn't be awarded but are? That incident last night was so stupid.

"Handball ref, penalty."
"Goal kick, but VAR will check"
*VAR checks*
"VAR says it hit his thigh so no penalty."
"OK so our corner then?"
"No."

It obvious to the average Forest fan that we are carrying a few passengers in the current team (CHO & MGW) to name 2 of the regulars. We NEED 100% commitment, so if we replace with lesser talent but more endevour so be it!

You seem to have an obsession with getting MGW out of the team and Im not sure why? He is our top scorer and the alternative in his position is McAtee who from what we have seen is nowhere near the level. MGW not in top form but nobody else is either, not sure what you want?

MGW and CHO are two of our best players. Seriously don’t understand this. They are very committed to this club. MGW is our top scorer with 5 and on for his best goalscoring season since joining.

TBF he's probably knackered though - hopefully he won't be played on Friday.

Totally agree on all that!

Thought we saw last night the Hutchinson that Ipswich fans warned us about. Lots of ability but a bit of a show pony who switches off and costs the team. Exactly what he did for the corner which led to their goal. Not surprised he was hooked, still like him but he can play better than that.

I agree on the MGW stuff but what is CHO doing to earn this status?

I don't think there is any lack of commitment or anything like that but just not sure he offers that much really.

He's still quite young and will improve

I think all the players are going through a bit of a lull atm so it's harsh to single out young Hutchinson and say he's not doing it. N'Doye hasn't performed, CHO was poor for large periods I thought and imo hasn't really done enough to earn his no doubt massive salary. Murillo hasn't hit the highs we're used to from him. I could go on....

Our stats were better than theirs on every metric. Forced a world class save and hit the bar. Conceded a freak own goal. Not pretty but job done.

Its all about last season, is it?

The belief that we should be challenging for Europe despite being on our 3rd manager and having to dig in to stay afloat.

At present im yet to see Bakwa produce anything that puts him beyond Jota. Hutchinson has taken his chances in the main, last nights brain fart aside.

Ive been unhappy with MGW plenty of times but Sal is right, theres no viable alternative and whilst i would like him to play better he remains our talisman in this side
