I think that recent evidence tells us that neither Pants or Steele are up to the job.

I would try to sell both and get a new number 1 keeper with Smith number 2.

Agree... his was his first start in ages, played well in the first half and I think he even gave more confidence to the players then Pants did lately. 
In the second half, maybe some are saying that he should have saved (or done better) on two of the goals, in my modest opinion, Boyds goal was a superb shot that hit the only available spot, if there was some fault, I think that should be attributed to the loose marking of the players outside the box.
The other wonder (or fluke ) goal that caught Steele on the wrong side of goal, was a fluke that happens once (or twice) in a lifetime ...in the first half Lolley tried a similar shot but went just wide...
The other (I think it was the last one), was pure fortune. The Wednesday player found the ball in his feet twice, first from Bens clearance and then again following Steeles instinct save.
Maybe his kicking wasnt the best in the world, but at least he made use of the box in crosses and gave some confidence to the players in set pieces...the other yellow giant, is always stuck on the goal line and rarely dares to venture out, even for crosses that he should be `eating for breakfast`

I havent seen anything about Steele which fills me with confidence, he is 34 now not going to get any better. His only lenghty spell in England a first choice keeper was with Barnsley over 5 years ago.
Not saying he is useless but I really dont think he is the answer.

He's the perfect illusion for me SA, and the perfect example of players we kid ourselves are good enough for the task in hand.

Over a season, calls like standing still to watch Blackburn score cost us enough points to do us over. Yeah that may be counter balanced by some good displays, but for me the keepers role is more about not making mistakes than it is doing great stuff to keep your team in it.

Happy to keep him, dare say on form he'll provide usefull in a playoff push, but I'd like to see better bought here to ensure we've quality in depth, and genuine competition for the shirt.

Goalkeeping errors have been a recurring thing this season.

Colin Fray even had a pop at Pantilimon yesterday.

We simply cannot have Pants and Steele as number 1 and 2 next season.

Just watched highlights. Not sure how much he could do with 1st goal other than a hopeful dive to look like he is trying. 2nd goal no chance, following some comical defending. The saves he did make though were very good. Still maintain that our priorities lie elsewhere. Easy to pick fault when comparing with Prem keepers, but how many Championship keepers are significantly better? Butland, Foster, Randolph, Westwood. Maybe Carson. Archer and Bentley? Not this season. Leeds, Narch & Sheff Utd? All doing well in spite of their error prone keepers. I think the days of tonnes of top British keepers are gone for whatever reason, especially outside top flight. Most Prem teams seem to want 3 or even 4 keepers training day in day out and plenty of them seem happy to do so as 3rd or 4th choice.. If we could realistically attract one of them on a years loan, then great, but a permanent upgrade I struggle to see happening.

I would however like to see Smith as our number 2, though not getting a game at stags begs its own questions....
