Individuals had become frustrated at the manner in which they could be in the starting XI for one game and out of the squad completely for the next, without necessarily having performed badly. Several players did not know where they stood with him, complaining that he would tell them one thing and then do something entirely different. Call it the manager’s prerogative, perhaps. But whatever it was, it had contributed to a change in how a number of players had come to regard him.
