The squad is pretty much all available (I accept that is not the same as fully fit) . Nobody is going to argue that if Silva played we would have that game playing the way we did.
But the season is one game old. The performance was concerning and there were few positives to take. Freeman does look good, Blackett was alright and Grabban was getting into position.
But far too many players looked rusty and off pace. Da Costa was guilty of giving the ball away and did not do enough to warrant his place imo. Lolley doesn't look 100%,nor did Colback. Gabriel's inexperience is clear - and it is not made any easier when you consider who he is having to replace. Worrall and figs looked drained of confidence. Nevertheless, other than the goals, samba barely had anything to do.
It is one game but it is nagging me that this was not the performance we had hoped for. We bemoan Grabban missing three shots but did anyone else look like they were going to chip in with a goal. This was our problem we had last year - when Grabban did not score there was no one else to score. And that in turn puts more pressure on Grabban.
Now this may change and the turnaround might be quick. But it won't happen unless we start playing from the first minute (not after we go behind) and that we play with less fear, greater positivity and a higher tempo.
More performances like today (and like those we have seen since June) and lamouchi will be gone.
