I agree possession does not always equate to winning football matches but the teams that do consistently win tend to have more possession, especially over a period of time. One of our problems this season was winning matches at home where we were expected to break teams down. We lacked the quality to do that. To step up we need to be more confident in possession and we need quality additions for that.

Please keep in mind that keeping the ball just to avoid that the opposition gets hold of it is just as "negative" as any defensive strategy. My point being that possession based football is not always about attacking and scoring goals.

I believe Forest need to be a lot better at taking advantage of situations where the opposition is not fully in balance (hence when we win the ball). These are the really critical moments in any game. Too often this season promising situations have been wasted and I believe the main reason has been a midfield that has in general, been to static. It is of course a prerequisite that the players are able to pass the ball to a team mate but that is independent of playing possession football or not.
