There was an article in today's Athletic co penned by both Taylor's; at the end of the articles was a very telling quote from Lamouchi regarding the mental strength of the team:
“My nature is that I am an optimist. I know the atmosphere that has been around but what am I to do? I can understand what has happened here over many, many years but I was not here before… We need to change the mentality. But to change the mentality in a short space of time is not easy.”
Skill will only get you so far; there is no substitute for having the discipline and guile to close out games, to batten down the hatches when things are not going to plan - we just do not have those players.
Lolley clean through on goal in the first half and bottled it; he would usually not have thought twice about shooting.
Cash and Ribeiro went completely off the reservation during the second half, their defending was shambolic.
You could go through the entire team.
There is no leadership on the pitch and we will continue to struggle until we get some.
