Well just thinking out loud here but watson and geddy have what 2 seasons left in them so i would be thinking long term that Yates goes on loan and plays a full season as first choice somewhere else. Then the next season when watson and geddy are slowing down he shares the load in the first team and then the season after that he replaces at least one of them as the first team starter and what he will be 22/23 so a good age for a premier league midfielder.

It could well go like that.  

(I think the players Forest have signed can take the pressure of all the Academy products and they can develop at a more natural pace.  Smith, Worrall, Brereton seemed to have the weight of the world on their shoulders last season.  Cash seemed less affected.  Karanka will have a more tempered (re-)introduction of Academy products to the Forest team as and when deemed necessary and can do a job when called upon, taking the pressure off them 'leading' the line as the had to, at times, last season.  Hopefully they will flourish with better quality experienced players around them.)

Well, I'm guessing Yates won't get a game ahead of Watson and 'Colback'(?) and there's Bridcutt and Geddy to get past as well.  So, Forest are well stocked in CM...(IF Colback signs...) however...

On the plus side, he seems to have impressed pre-season and seems slightly different to the rest of the CMs Forest have?  (His heart seems Forest through and through, as well.  He seems like Chris Cohen 'all action' type of player?)

If he does go on loan to another Championship side, I'd like it to only be until January.  If he his development comes along in the right way, there is a chance he could play a part in a promotion push.

He seems like a player hungry to learn and for success.

That does seem sensible particularly if it’s in the championship. I think it’s only worth keeping him if we’re confident he’ll get plenty of game time. By all accounts though this is a possibility based on pre season.

Yates is an exciting prospect.  Either way, I'll be watching his progress with great interest...

Last week I was in the City hospital on a appointment. I got talking to a nice chap, a staunch NCFC fan.  He was ranting about Yates like a loon at times. Telling me, he was the best teenager he had seen in a Notts shirt. Apparently he was always mouthing at the old hands and yelling instructions. Football wise, win the ball. Have a look and a simple pass to get the momentum going. Best DCM he had seen for ages and he insisted that Yates will captain Forest one day.  Notts fell apart last January when he left. They then turned to hoof ball without him and it was shit to watch.
