Karanka wanted a known quantity and was happy to sacrifice Brereton to fund that.
Darlow & Lascalles were sold to fund Britt & Antonio.
Had we not sold Bamford we couldn’t have funded the signings Cotterill and SOD wanted to keep us up.
It’s worth noting that the three examples referenced were all under different owners!
FFP is entirely relevant. Our wage bill is inflated and onerous.
I do agree with you that our acquisition strategy has largely been erratic. I personally still do have issues with it. Marinakis has clearly made mistakes since he arrived in how that part of the Club has been run. I think I shouted louder than most about our terrible business in January. Dourekas has been brought in and entrusted with this, am I convinced that he is capable of doing what needs to be done? Not yet.
I don’t however think our disjointed approach to buying players makes selling Appiah for £8n here and now a bad deal.
If the argument that he has potential is the sole reasoning to keep him then based on historical evidence that won’t support such a stance.
