Is Our Squad Stronger Or Weaker Than Last Season

Think some are making too much of the squad size. It’s not ideal, but Villa had a huge squad last season and went up. It’s not as if all the players are training together.

i agree, me for one, i've changed my mind, i think the squad is big but includes alot of players who could play a significant part in the season, i think a big squad is better than a small squad, alot of the players are young, good blend of experience and youth, quite a few young signings this window and Ameobi is only 27 and Albert good to have in the squad and keep wrapped in cotton wool.

At the end of the day we don't have to worry about the wage bill, collectively the contract lengths are healthy, a few of the signings this window having an eye on the future, alot of the players are on relatively short contracts but gives them an opportunity to get a new deal.

So many players who can put in match winning shifts who haven't even featured this season, got to be a good thing

Only a season ago ..  we dreaded every ball into our box or were lightweight in mf and got knocked about or fragile in possession

I was sceptical and upset, caused by the treatment of M o N and R K, sort of getting over it now, my vote was a throwing my toys out my pram vote, really hope it works out for SL and ideally gets success and a longer deal

Some good points here, some of which we were talking about at the game. Over the next 2 seasons,we have so many players reach the end of contracts of varying length, that the club has alot of wriggle room. It's a win win. If they play well (say Ameobi carries on this way) they get offered extensions, if rubbish (Zak C or maybe if someone like Bostock doesn't work out,) then they leave after 2 seasons max.
