With the DCM covered it's now onto the CMs:
I'm still going with the 4-3-3 formation and we are now onto the two CMs. Here we have a few options. The big question for me will be if we are strong enough as a team to be able to play 2 offensive midfielders. An offensive 4-3-3 set up requires the team to press hard and play with high intensity. At least it seems to be what Sari is trying to achieve with Forest ref. also his comments after the Crystal Palace game where he said that he wanted even more intensity and pressing as well as needing new players with experience and aggressiveness.
My preferred combination for the two CMs in a 4-3-3 would be Silva and Carvalho. A midfield trio with Semedo in the holding role and Silva and Carvalho as the offensive duo could prove to be unstoppable in the Championship. My main question mark with this set up is if Carvalho is able to play disciplined enough with the necessary intensity when pressing. This is actually a general concern about Carvalho. If he's not able to do deliver according to these requirements, then I believe he should not play in the starting 11. He should then be used as an impact sub.
If Semedo is not to occupy the holding role he will most definitely be a strong candidate for one of the CMs as is Yates, Guedioura and Osborn (if these two are staying at Forest). I believe these candidates will offer more defensive safety that a duo with Silva and Carvalho and that could be preferable against certain teams.
Other candidates that could prove to be effective are Cash, Johnson and also Lolley. Johnson has impressed me and could maybe force his way into the team during the season. However, I don't believe Edser is ready.
In addition to these candidates I fully expects Sari to recruit one or two new midfielders as well.
To summarize, with the players we currently have my dream CM duo would be Silva and Carvalho. On paper that looks very tasty :)
