I'm not sure about that. I think concerns around style were important in the relationship between the City Ground crowd and O'Neill. Objectively, O'Neil won a greater share of his matches than either Karanka or Warburton or any full-time manager since Billy.
Was that enough for a large slice of fans?
From my perspective, I want to see a winning team (obviously) that at least attempts (at the appropriate point in *every* game) to play a progressive style, without too much overt gamesmanship.
It's a bonus if the first team has ex-youth system players. But this isn't close to as important as the above.
