You are correct PSS, if we had kept Stan who knows what would have happened, I remember an interview with Frank Clark saying he genuinely thought he could have won the competition if we had hung on to him.
Anyhow it was a great night and atmosphere. I can still remember the first goal, free kick just outside the area. I was in TE upper behind the goal and it was a daisy cutter kick but not hit too hard and I thought should have been a routine save. Then with horror realising that Crossley hadnt seen it and wasnt moving, the ball seemed to go into the bottom corner in slow motion.
5-0 up and still in Europe was good though! It was fun that season reminding the big guns we were the last team in Europe for most of that season,ManU and the like didnt take it too well!
That promotion season was great fun culminating in Peterboro away, then that PL season 94/95 putting 7 past Sheff Wed and beating Man U at Old Trafford, Then we sold Stan, had the run in a few cups but we were losing players at some stage, if you look at that video clip, apparently '1996' I guess it must of been 96/97 after the Bayern season. Dean Saunders, Chris Allen, Kevin Campbell were on the books and I think we had lost a few players around that time, in fact we got relegated 96/97? I think. Seemed a bit self inflicted. We ended up Ron Atkinson and that 1.7 thriller !
