Thanks for bringing up the Bayern Munich game, of course the last game we played in Europe to this day and the only European campaign I have actually attended. I doubt most of us there that night would believe it if we said not only would we not be back, we will spend the next 2 decades outside the premier league.
You are correct PSS, if we had kept Stan who knows what would have happened, I remember an interview with Frank Clark saying he genuinely thought he could have won the competition if we had hung on to him.
Anyhow it was a great night and atmosphere. I can still remember the first goal, free kick just outside the area. I was in TE upper behind the goal and it was a daisy cutter kick but not hit too hard and I thought should have been a routine save. Then with horror realising that Crossley hadnt seen it and wasnt moving, the ball seemed to go into the bottom corner in slow motion.
5-0 up and still in Europe was good though! It was fun that season reminding the big guns we were the last team in Europe for most of that season,ManU and the like didnt take it too well!
