Beware Greeks bearing gaffes. And beware criticising your boss in public. It all feels such a waste, losing Nuno. Kept Forest up, transformed atmosphere at the City Ground, won at Anfield, battered Brighton, got Forest 7th, into Europe, nominated for LMA PL Manager of the Year, and two of his players in the PFA Team of the Year (Sels, Wood). Deserved backing not sacking by the owner.
Marinakis has done plenty of good at Forest, investing in the squad, clearly passionate about football. But he has to bear much of the responsibility for the breakdown in his relationship with one of the best managers Forest have had in years. Nuno's also culpable for this sad outcome - it was provocative to speak out so negatively about his relationship with Marinakis.
Nuno collecting his cards was on the cards then, especially with headlines about him wanting Traore and tensions with Edu, especially with lingering frustration over the way last season ended, drawing at home to relegated Leicester, fading out of CL picture. Nuno still got Forest in Europe which few predicted at the start of the season.
Nuno is a loss. Players liked him, Anderson talked about how he’d improved him, fans loved him. When Marinakis sacked Cooper, many fans felt aggrieved. Marinakis appointed Nuno who revived Forest's fortunes. Nuno’s successor has plenty of good players to work with and plenty of pressure. He has to do better than seventh. And has to keep Marinakis onside. And Forest fans remain on a rollercoaster. #NFFC
I really like Henry Winter and he seems to be always write good stuff about us but this is poor by him.
The whole kept Forest up thing isn’t that black and white, the stats speak for themselves.
The atmosphere under SC was just as good as it was under Nuno. In fact it’s not been brilliant for the most part for a good six months.
Surely no one can argue that Nuno has not been backed? Just because we didn’t sign Traore? That’s ridiculous.
Why does EM have to bear the responsibility? Nuno’s conduct this Summer has been nothing short of shocking when it comes to dealing with the press.
Did the fans love him? I personally never felt that, even away from home, he has given us some incredible moments but I didn’t have the same affinity with him as I did with his predecessor.
