Well as a supporter who has travelled over 4000 miles this season (many will have travelled more as I live walking distance -just -from WFCG) I can honestly say I did not expect to finish 7th.
There have been times this season where I hoped we might finish top 4 (and we came close) but realistically Nuno managed to squeeze every ounce out of these lads and despite the usual doom and gloom merchants talking about lost cash, we have gained millions in our prize pot compared to last 2 seasons.
I thought the lads gave everything again yesterday and it wasn't quite enough, results going our way has exacerbated peoples frustration. The home run was viewed with an air of entitlement by so many. The famous home atmosphere dwindled and so did the points tally.
My biggest criticism of yesterday go's to the whole post match lap. I accept footballers get paid silly money, whilst I near bankrupt myself to follow them. But I put up with waiting through The Chelsea celebrations only to see about 500 people do a slow lap of honour. Most are paid by the club or are very fortunate to be family/friends of these very rich young men. We had to stay off the pitch, so should they-players only for me.
This says it all for me, a reply from a question about whether people stayed:
Most stayed but: Had to wait ages and endure Chelsea fans and players celebrating Champions League for what felt like ages. Some couldn't stomach it (and I can sympathise).
Then eventually about 500 people walked slowly around pitch with wives, girlfriends, family, 50 mates from Newcastle with Ando, a bunch of folk with Ola lapping up the applause as if it was them who'd played this season and dozens of other hanger ons.
Genuinely the sh1ttest lap of appreciation ever seen. (Apart from West Hams last week)
Some of the WAGs caught the eye though.
Should just get back to 80s style end of season pitch invasion, the away team would soon f@(k off the pitch. Followed by bloke on tannoy saying "please get off the pitch so players (and only players) can do their lap of honour/appreciation/shame (delete depending on season). Everyone jumps back in stands. Players walk round and wave, we sing each of their names and everyone is happy.
