Dont buy the theory that he delay in announcing Keane is because the club want to create a theatrical moment at todays press conference. Just my hunch but there's clearly as issue with regard to Keane coming. It cant take 3 or 4 days to agree the straightforward employment of a number 2.
Again, just my hunch, but issues could be:
1) Just pure money - we want to pay him what we think is commensurate with an assistant manager at a 2nd division club, he wants more;
2) He wants a contractual assurance that he automatically takes over as No1 after MON retires, or receives compensation appropriate to this arrangement if either are sacked before this happens;
3) He's seen that the club sack their managers every 12 months and so wants a big compensation clause in the event of this happening - the club are resisting;
4) He doesn't fancy the role as a number 2 and still thinks he can get a job as a No1 elsewhere;
4a) Another club are about to sack their manager and have approached Keane on the quiet to sound him out;
6) The club have a new director of football / sporting director / management system in place and they're trying to agree (or impose) a job description on him that he's uncomfortable with;
7) There's a personal issue in his life at the moment (we all have them from time to time) that means work matters take a lesser priority and it'll all get sorted out in a few more days.
