I can't find it but there was a comment about a box midfielder and i couldn't agree more with the current players we have at our disposal we should have looked at it. I can only suggest we didn't look at it because we have been poor retaining the ball and the box midfielder needs the team to keep the ball to move out from defence and also we bought FB's to act as wingers rather than to become CB's. Had the Nikahate at LB experiment had worked the one time we tried it wouldn't have surprised me to see us make steps in that direction.
But a quick mark up shows what we could have looked like and i split the zones so you can see the lack of space available to teams if they turn over the ball. Also worth noting that players listed can and did do those roles for previous teams apart from Nico but as the boy has good pace and energy with both attacking and defensive mind so i would guess he could. We do have a player who did similar but he is just not getting to grips with the league and i couldn't trust him with getting back and doing the defensive part which is Sangare (who knows maybe one day??)
it does make we wonder why we play the 4-2-3-1 the way we do with the full backs bursting forwards leaving the defensive line so open. But again if we retained the ball better or pressed higher up it gives us overloads in the same manner just further for players to run and bigger gaps when it goes wrong.
Edit just so you know i am aware players are injured and can't play but players like wood up front could easy fit in and i would suggest someone like wood would receive more crosses this way.
