I seem to remember fans of Norwich, Watford, West Brom, Swansea, Cardiff, Stoke and a few others too being cocky and confident of a quick return with their teams stacked with Premier League experience. Its not that simple and too many have been shown up by lesser teams with younger hungrier players.
Three of those teams have recently also bounced straight back. Norwich also barely spent in the Prem, Watford are a terribly run club, Stoke were a mess when they came down, Cardiff likewise. I don't think those teams would've been that confident.
I get your point but at the same time there's no point pretending we won't have a clear financial advantage courtesy of parachute payments meaning we can sustain a higher wage bill and generally wage bill equals league position. Plus we have a chunk of players that we know have performed well in the championship either for us or other sides.
The challenge will be trimming the squad in a way that keeps the players you actually want and loses the likes of Freuler that you wouldn't necessarily want in the Championship
