Shelvey was excellent until his aberration. His defensive work was as good as anyone else. Once the mistake was made his head dropped, he knew he had let everyone down and it effected his game and ours. At that point, the game was lost.
He isn’t the only player to make a horrendous individual mistake that has been punished in recent times. Niakahte, Felipe, Navas and Worrall to name but a few have all been guilty of it.
Until then we were the far better team. Villa’s played on the basis that we would make a mistake and that they would capitalise. Even at one up it continued.
Their fans were the worst support I’ve witnessed all season, yet ours sang for a large proportion of the game. Football in a library indeed.
I know which team I’d rather follow.
A shout out to Neco yesterday, someone I haven’t rated since September. He looked much better in a back five.
Also to Toffolo who I don’t think puts a foot wrong to be honest. He’s not the most skilful but doesn’t let us down.
I personally don’t rate Navas, despite his pedigree. I think he is the worst kicker of the ball we’ve had in goal for sometime. It will be nice to see Henderson back IMO.
Agree with all but Toffolo. He completely lost his man for 1st goal, he appeared to have no clue there was a man in behind him until he turned to chase the ball and saw the no 9 galloping away. That aside he did OK. Worrall was a rock yesterday. Shelvey unfortunately has to be judged on his overall impact on game, which was an assist for the winner.
We deserved a point in our overall play, but gifting goals in this league ends only one way.
Bring on Man Yoo.
