The Countdown..........
Huddersfield Fans Pre Match Comments.........
Bring on the Forest !
Nothing to fear after last nights showing but we equally need to be better than the performance we put on, backing Jordan to steer his home again, UTT
Just enjoy it. Another day at Wembley. We are lucky. Some clubs will go their entire history never competing in a play off final.
If we win, great, if we don’t, let’s build and go again next season.
Will be a great day. Great for the club to be at Wembley again. Great for the young kids too, great memories.
Absolutely. Expected a relegation struggle this year. Still smiling that we’ve reached Wembley. Just going to enjoy the day out and applaud the team at the end, whatever the result.
Never, ever, want to see Town lose, but Trees will be firm favourites and are arguably the better side. On the basis that I never want to see Town lose, it would not be the worst thing ever to avoid weekly beatings in Prem.
I don't expect victory, but will be cheering the boys On nevertheless.
On the other hand, we can dream.....
Bring em on, they're not unbeatable
I can’t say Id still be happy if we lose. Nothing beats that elation of a playoff win after such a long season of battling against everything, budget constraints, media dissing us at every available opportunity shite bias refs we deserve this and I along with thousands of others connected to this beautiful club do too.
saying that I will be cacking myself all game and be a complete mess at the end again! UTT 4-0
I'm not buying into the whole v Forest narrative...however the odds at the bookies are just baffling at the moment. Completely ignoring the fact that Forest actually lost last night and we placed above them through the season.
(From Examiner)
Sky Bet have Huddersfield Town priced at 11/4 (3.75) to win the game in 90 minutes while Forest are at evens (2.00). The odds of the game going to extra time are 12/5 (3.40). Town are 6/4 (2.50) to be promoted by any means, while Forest are 1/2 (1.50).
Same message as before the Luton games; trust Carlos and the team. All the words, rhetoric, hype and media focus (largely on how great it would be for Forest to be back in the Premier League) this comes down to those players, our coach and the belief they have. I have often rattled on about how important belief is, well these lads have it in spades.
My message to them is; keep doing what you have done, and got better at each week of the season, play for each other and trust Carlos. You will have all the support from the stands you need. Do it for yourselves, you deserve it and it will make thousands of people very happy.
For me it is as simple as that, for all the hot air that will be generated it comes down to heart, determination and, that word belief. It doesn't really matter what we think because these lads believe they can do it, the fact that 30,000+ of their best friends also do is a added bonus.
I thought 2017 was a once in a lifetime, that dreaded "moment in time". This season has proved this club can create many moments in time. Whatever happens on 29th May mustn't define our long term future. We aren't entitled, but we are capable of more than we allow ourselves to believe. May 2022 is confirmation that this club is capable of continuing to improve.
May 29th is about those players and Carlos achieving their own personal destiny. I wish them all the luck in the world and thank them for the most unexpected, but fantastic, season. I'll be proud to support you on Sunday week.
The best thing about this season for me is it has put to bed the myth that we cant compete and that 2017 was some kind of freak.
sadly I think they might just have too much for us. Hope we can win though. One thing is for sure is we will give it a go.
Worth going for the whole experience.
Obviously the prize money for the winner is huge, but am I right that it's also a bumper pay day for the loser too?
Forest aren't Liverpool, they're just an established championship side who have had a good season, we can win but will have to up our game from monday night, we can do that!
Agree.
If we are honest, it’s been a while since we performed to the top of our abilities.
Saving one big performance for when it really matters!
The whole squad and their families are going to Portugal for the next week for a mini training camp. Did this last time we got promoted too .
Last night showed Forest are not invincible and they wobbled under the pressure of expectation.
They will have magnificent support on the day and no doubt 5k at least more than us, but that could equally go against them if we can get a foothold in the game.
Steve Cook's post match interview last night was quite revelatory !
I just hope we play on the front foot in the final. Press them high. Support the striker and get runners forwards when attacking. Don’t set up like the first half vs Luton. Too slow, everything through Hogg, not enough movement.
If we do miss out let’s go down fighting and really going for it.
I really wish Corberan would leave someone up when we defend corners too. Holmes or Sinani on the halfway to push some of their defence back and ensure any clearance we can chase and pressure rather than it just coming straight back.
Let them keep the hype and believe they only have to turn up to get promoted. It often doesn’t work out like that.
We’ve been at our best all season when we’ve soaked up the opposition attacks, worked out where the gaps are and countered at pace. We’ve also done well later in games when the opposition tires. I think these tactics are probably our best chance of a result against a very dynamic Forest attack. Happy to trust Carlos, we need to be better than we were against Luton, but we have it in us to beat Forest.
O’Brien described our tactics as like a sponge on that access all areas video. “Soak up all the pressure and then go up the other end and score”
Definitely feel like the players are learning how to read the opposition. It’s a pretty risky tactic when your ball retention and defensive discipline is as poor as it was on Monday night though. We need to be much less generous in giving them opportunities at Wembley
Serious question..
Will our players be forming a guard of honour for “the former kings of England “ before the game
Personally I think once they score their eighth goal Carlos will throw the white towel ont pitch to save us from further embarrassment..
We can only hope to bask in their glory for a short period before the inevitable happens..
Really wanted it to be Sheff U before last night but having watched it I think Forest are better for us. Sheff U's midfield was strong and took over in the second half, that might have been a problem for us.
Forest not only tired but looked as though the expectation had really got to them. The space that Berge had is where Sorba will hopefully be operating, and they will find our set pieces a real nightmare. If we are level after an hour I think we are favourites.
Think of the outrage if the mighty Forest don't take their rightful place at the top table
To beat Forest we will need to be set up like we were away to Fulham and...Forest. Defending higher up the pitch and more aggressively than against Luton, with Hogg in midfield not pissing about at the back, and more threatening attacks that begin nearer the opposition goal.
The best part of being in the final is the anticipation and excitement beforehand. Going down to London, having a few drinks with 1,000s of fellow fans, going into the stadium...players coming onto the pitch.
The next 90,120 or 150 minutes is usually hell... If you lose (a la Pbro) it's crap, but if you win ...oh my Lord.
Then you kick off in the PL and you think,,Oh, shit!
If we play 3 at the back we'll get mullered..so Turton, Lees,Colwill,Toffolo..
And Hogg deep midfield...Will he start Sorba, can he do 90/120 mins ?
Rhodes or Ward ?
I honestly have no idea how he will set up. I don't think Steve Cooper will either!
Remember all the pressure is on Forest. This is a big day out for them lot - never been to new Wembley and never in top division this millennium. They’ll be like kids at Xmas.
Let them sell out and enjoy their big day out in the big city. It’s all old hat for us.
So let us concentrate on what we we do best. Stay under the radar and win play offs.
It is, seen town there three times if you include when we played Tottenham in the prem, its a whole new world for Florist fans.
My big concern is their right hand side. We have to make sure that Toffolo isn't left to manage on his own and nor is O'Brien permanently kept there. If we do play 3 at the back, I might be tempted to get Colwill to man-mark Johnson.
So long as he's up to the pace from the start...looked a mile off against Luton
Did we sell 36000 last time?
38 or so
Point of order
The title of this thread should be
Town v Notts Forest
They love being called Notts Forest for some reason
I think the Florist autocorrect is almost as funny
As per the expert comments from last night..
Johnson clearly has an ongoing back problem, best clatter him early and take one for the team.
Goodman would probably argue that but he went with the shithousing when it was Forest doing it..
Think the first 60-70 minutes are absolutely crucial to our chances. Forest like to fly out of the traps, energetically pressing and trying to go at teams from the off, but from what I’ve seen lately look absolutely out on their feet around the hour mark. If we’re still in the game at that point I fancy us to win.
The media furore over Forest and the complete lack of expectation around us suits me right down to the ground. All the pressure is on them.
I genuinely can't think of anyone who would be calmer in that dugout than Corberan on the 29th May. Someone else put this more eloquently than I will but I know for a fact he won't let the occasion get to him - to him Wembley is just another 115 yard × 74 yard field of grass to win a football match on. One more game.
I read a lot about certain teams going into games with 'pressure', but i dont think theres much in it tbh, maybe it might affect some players but generally i dont think it has that much of an influence, hope it does on the 29th though.
No pressure on us at all. Just go out, play as well as we can, and see what happens.
There will be one key ingredient for whoever wins - luck.
Forest crap at set piece defending and we are pretty good at them
Also Samba... That boy has more than one mistake in him a game. He was outstanding last night no doubt but I have a feeling he will have a bit of a shocker against us. That back 4 in front of him are pretty average.
Forests asset is pace on the wings and the no. 9 Davis I think was excellent when he came on. A handful.
Nullify that and we win. Carlos will have a plan. He always does.
Not scared whatsoever. Bring it on
For me they have 2 good players - Spence and Johnson - the rest are no better that Town have. To counter we have Thomas and LOB is due a good game. Goalies....very good on both sides. Nicholls just pips it for me.
It will be a very tight game and if it comes to pens well who knows.
Hard to call this one for me I am afraid but maybe our "ace in the hand" will be Anjorin who will make himself a Town legend with a late winner. As always if we lose then as long as we can hold our heads up and say "we gave everything" then there is absolutely no shame in that.
Thing I'm most concerned about is will dealing with Johnson nullify Tofolo or will we trust in Sarr or Colwill to cope against him and try to put the pressure on them?
Just seen an article on the unexamined. It’s says the media bias is justified because the trees haven’t been in the top flight for 22 years? So if that’s the justification why the media bias when we got promoted to the top flight after a 46 year absence? Nottingham is a northern town Gary Neville? Where was our “media coverage?” f*****g dog shit response examiner shake yer head have a word! We are the town and we are going up
