Disagree Alf. The short sighted approach in my opinion is the one that does give a manager free reign and let him bring all his buddies in, only to sack him a few months later then you end up with a load of unhappy players who cannot work with the next guy and your new bomb squad. Imagine if we had let Hughton sign Knockaert for £10M. He would probably have said yes to the deal.
The sensible approach is to build a young hungry squad with a style of play and then you bring in the manager that fits that ethos. I realise that is the head coach model that we tried with Sabri, it looked good for a while, with a coherent plan behind it still think its the best way.
