Not saying I blame him most of us would do the same but he had a habit of leaving under a cloud. Forest were in L1 at the time and couldn’t offer a contract until the end of the season anyway. Derby had just been relegated from the PL with parachute money and we would never have been above to match their offer which he knew.
I feel sorry for his family loss, S**t happens in all walks of life, but I dont regret singing about him being a Judas when he came back here.
Exactly. If that's the way you want to make money (by running your contract down and leaving for nowt) then fine, that's a player's prerogative, but don't then years later expect to be welcomed with open arms by a fanbase of the club you did it to. You cant have it both ways. Years before, Stuart Pearce stayed loyal even when he was underpaid (according to him), but he could see the bigger picture. Des Walker stayed on for another year after doing a deal with Cloughy. It happens all the time.
At the end of that season KC, as he understandably needed to stay settled, could've had his agent banging on Arthur's door, asking what it'd take to get offered a new contract, or suggesting a 12 month extension on similar terms maybe until both parties were better placed to make a proper decision. But he didn't. His agent went off and started talking mega numbers to the sheep. It pisses me off when players come out and say they want to stay, at the same time their agent is asking for silly money to do so.
