If we are playing well but not getting the run of the ball with results I would imagine he should be fine. If we are playing poorly and getting thumped then the writing will be on the wall; there is no way that a side containing the players we have now should not be able to hold its own. An indifferent start is not always a major handicap; I can vividly remember Frank Clarke's team, containing Stan, not getting going until November and still getting promoted. The Championship novice bit, together with it being the hardest league out there is a myth; it is no harder or easier to win than any other league, and there are very rarely any hard luck stories. The emphasis should be on the football; if the new guy knows football he will do well; if he doesnt, why the hell are we hiring him?

It’s difficult because there are around 18 teams legitimately thinking they could get playoffs and as such spend hard with such a big reward if it happens. Plus expectant fans desperate to go play with the big boys. So yeah actually I think it’s one of if by the most difficult league around. Look at the prem, there’s some bang average teams easily finishing mid table.

Also to add why we’ve been stuck here for so long despite generally having a bigger budget than most on average.

It is a hard league but I reckon the biggest reason we are stuck here is that we have had 18 different managers in the last 20 years (and thats not including caretakers).

Chicken and egg though that, if we’d done better we’d have sacked less managers. Not defending the club we clearly do it too much but also so do most teams

Well we have been asking for a set up which meant regardless of who the head coach/manager was in charge the ethos of the club and style would remain the same and it looks like this season we are bring it in.
So again it looks on paper that we are doing the right things off the pitch we just are struggling to get the players to get it right on the pitch.

That comes from consistency of approach. Only when our scouting and dof / sporting director and coaching staff beneath the head coach are permanent and consistent will we start to see benefits.

There seems to be a lot of PR spin coming out the club over this last week. Firstly they throw Daniel Taylor some red meat by allowing him to throw Geddy under the bus, then they feed this story to Paul Taylor, which is nothing more than the club spinning to us how brilliant they are. I've said this before on here - apart from an initial 5 minute interview with the BBC in London, we've heard absolutely nothing from Marinakis, or anyone else in a position of authority in the club since they took over. So that's now 3 managers gone, in two years and we've not heard from one single voice directly from the club. I actually think this change to a head coach is the only way Marinakis will be successful with us. It allows the coach to be changed regularly without the entire club being turned upside down every nine months. If that's the way it's going to be then fine, I'll go with that, what do we have to lose? But please Forest, stick someone in front of a reporter or a camera and explain it to us first hand. |
