That's why I knew he would be in once Keane joined, he sees himself in him.

He saw himself in a young Colback too & he didn't turn out to bad. The only downside was is that it was Roy put him in to the high earners club & now we've got to try talk him down a bit, but yes, Roy does know a thing or two about midfielders, which does increase the hopes for Ryan to fulfil his potential.
I'm wondering if Keane has brought his influence to Yates.
Colback and Yates in the CM. Priceless. All of a sudden Forest's options are opening up.
The only question is, if we have enough time for MoN to coach them to task...

Offer Jack the captains armband next season to try and lure him back.
Tell hum he is the man we want to lead us back to the PL (assuming we don't make it this season).

He is on big money at Newcastle and I would imagine that one or two lower Prem teams will be interested in him.
I hope we can sign him in the summer but I am not convinced we can get him.

He seems happy here though. It won't be easy like you said.
I think we would definitely like to sign him so I suppose it is up to Jack, is he happy enough at Forest and enjoying his football enough to take a drop in wages?

Yes, it's no coincidence is it? Keane arrives and Yates is straight in the team.

Yates, for me, was the standout DCM from the pre-season. Worked very well alongside Geddy. (Before Colback's arrival later on...) They were both better than Bridcutt and Watson as a pair.
Yates has a 'will to win' and he will 'pass the ball forward.'
Potential.
No coincidence with Keane's arrival that Yates is straight in there.

I really like Jack Colback but should we break the bank to sign him permanently?

No. We remember Nickey Shorey? We were 'good enough' for a while but there was always the 'air' about him that he'd be off if something better came along. And it cost us promotion that season.
Similarly. If he can't commit? Drop kick him and pick somebody up for far cheaper who can.
Forest need to be ruthless with their Summer work. Mcginness schooled him when Villa came to the City Ground. It's not the first time he's been done.
And yes, he's my player of the season. But he's not the only CM in the universe.

He wasn't the difference vs Villa.
Neither was Car'.
And both those players cost an awful lot of money in transfer fees and wages.
To counter that, Villa have spent far more money on their squad over the last several years than Forest have.
Forest's last Summer's work was an unprecedented milestone in financial outlay and in terms of its failure to return on investment. That's why 'Mr. Walkout' was brought under scrutiny and pressure.

Not one player in the Forest squad has completed more passes than Jack (1,167) this season.

There is no doubting Jack's quality and what he brings to the team.
This 'transfer' will be all about money.
