It helps when he's getting the type of chances he got on Saturday. Two tap ins and a penalty! He almost had a few more similar too, the first goal was heading his way and that other one he missed by inches.

I think the trick to unlocking him, is when we do create chances we're creating big ones and his positional play is superb.

He has a natural instinct to be in right place at right time and finds a aw yard of space.

His movement is absolutely brilliant. He seems to know exactly when to drop back or attack the front post or whatever. He's so good at finding space even when he's the only one in the box with two or three defenders.

I would challenge that this is just about service. His goal against Leicester where he turned and hit it blind into the bottom corner shows he is an instinctive finisher. His goal against Liverpool was a brilliant finish from a tight angle. His goal against Everton where he dinked it over pickfords head. It hasn't just been tap inside or headers. This lad can really play as well.

Incredible season.
You don’t realise how good he is until you watch his movement closely in the box.

Just out of interest if Chris Wood was English do you think he would get an England call up or already have some caps.

Yeah he's similar to Kane, so he'd have been a decent understudy. We've not really had many greats backups to Kane over the years either, only really Watkins now.

Interestingly there was a period last season where Awoniyi had the best conversion rate. Remember Carragher doing a piece on it for Sky.

Cant be coincidence

I think it'll be partly due to the type of chances we create, ie we don't create loads but the ones we do are usually big chances.

Whereas say a team with loads of possession might have lots of half chances but not the level of clear cut ones we do.

I am not so sure myself based on the fact that he has never had a season before like the one he is having now.

Think it’s probably because Wood never got the opportunity to play for one of the big clubs or even at a club fighting at the right end of the table.
A few similarities with Peter Crouch who everyone assumed the only purpose of him was to get his head on a few corners. Then he got a move to Liverpool and suddenly he’s an international and dating a supermodel.

In Howe's press conference he's just spoken incredibly glowingly about Wood and said it was very underestimated the part he played in helping them stay up when they bought him.
