Fancy 3 points on Wednesday, Cooper has really lured me right back in. A really likeable bloke. And talks about football as I want to hear it so I could listen to him all day. If it makes it to the pitch I'm really excited after being sceptical about his appointment.

That is exactly how I am now MR. I wanted Wilder TBH, but Cooper has really changed my opinion of him over the past week.

I wanted Wilder.  But Steve has the job.  Good luck to him.  Positive, personable, enthusiastic and ...quite likeable.  Damn. I said I wouldn't get involved. It may take at least a year to see the fruits of where he's going.

The team has all the hallmarks of a team in transition and a recruitment process that is unfinished.  (Striker?  Hello...HELLO...STRIKER?  And a very 'green' CM.)

It remains to be seen how he or any other candidate gets on.  He got a 'lucky' draw against Millwall (I hope he is a lucky manager...) and the team still behaves pretty much the same.  Start brightly then fade and concede in the process as they got 'sucked' into Millwall's muck and nettles game.  The type of team Forest still struggle with.  They did keep plugging away in the 2nd half and made their own luck as Millwall's pressing game tired.

Had Grabban scored it would have been a different game.  But that only highlights the need to recruit in January for Grabban and Lyle's inevitable departures next Summer.

He's another manager who's been installed AFTER the recruitment of players has been done.  (Some may argue that under the new recruitment collegiate comittee...and 'coach' structure that is less important.)

Still want us to do Barnie though.  And I'll be delighted if Steve gets his 1st win.  Forest could do with one win and at least a draw to set Forest up for the international break from the next two games.

SA.

He doesn't look like a striker who worries the opposition at all. No presence in the air, poor ball control and, most of all, his positioning when a cross is coming is woeful. Every cross on saturday saw him positioned behind 2 defenders somehow expecting the ball to bypass them so that he could tap in. I've read that the u23 strikers aren't yet ready. Well ok so then I think that Silva should play so that, hopefully, this old ex centre forward can grind his teeth a little less on Wednesday night.

Its interesting that Taylor is rapidly becoming this season’s scapegoat. At least he was my scapegoat last season too, get your own bandwagon jumpers  :D

Its his positioning for me too, always has been, I heard Steve Sutton commenting on it on the drive home trying desperately hard not to slate him saying  he was not that type of player bit goodness knows what type of player he is meant to be then. To be fair he hit a decent shot second half when Spence I think picked him out but the ball came straight to him. Just wish he would make better runs, is it in his contract he cant attack the near post or something?

Been a weird one mate, just warmed to him after initially brushing him aside. I think we are on to something here. He has made a really bright start. Fingers crossed for 3 points Wednesday night.

Barnsley v Forest up next and this could be a very interesting encounter as both teams play a variation of the modern 3-4-3 system although Forest is more a 3-4-2-1 to add more bodies centrally. Forest however are only just getting used to this system and no longer have the surprise element to this whereas Barnsley have embedded this set up across all levels of the club and it is proving to be a success for them despite losing their better players each season. So will this game become a stalemate, will Barnsley’s knowledge of the system and experience give them the upper hand or which coach will make the changes to gain the upper hand first. I can’t wait to see how it pans out.

Barnsley so far this season have not managed to get their high energy, high press game working just yet. This has mostly been to missing key players who excelled in the roles. However there has been signs that with the consistence 11 they put out each match the game plan is beginning to come back again. With three players playing high and wide they close down teams ability to playout from the back down the wide areas. This has forced teams to go central, which is where Barnsley want the ball. If teams do manage to work the ball wide and attack down the wing areas, they do struggle as the three CD’s do not like to move wide and the lack of communication from those three has left gaps for strikers to expose when attacking crosses.

Barnsley are a team who likes to make short passes and control possession before quick breaks into the others teams areas. These breaks normally result in them taking long shots from anywhere outside the box. They have shown they have good off the ball movement with runners who move defenders enough to allow players with the ball to just make enough space to have a shot at goal. Defenders must hate being against Barnsley as they are dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t go to the ball as going to the ball gives the off the ball movement the space to receive the ball if the pass was made instead.

As much as Barnsley’s game plans is about possession football they have struggled in this area when teams press them early and they haven’t had a chance to set themselves into their zonal areas of play. Because of the Zonal pattern system they use players pass to areas not to feet and thus if every player has not got into their zonal area, passes are misplaced. Also this does cause them to be caught of side often if defence are able to play high line against them.

Who then?

Im no fan of him Taylor as you know but it would dent any players confidence if they were dropped in favour of an untried youngster or someone else playing out of position. For me he stays in last chance saloon.
