Sheffield Wednesday - Nottingham Forest

Did anyone notice how many players we had in SW's box when we were attacking ? I can't remember seeing that in the last

2 or 3 years. The change to a 4 3 3 seemed to work I thought, apart from not being able to score again !!

However it wouldn’t surprise me one iota that Marinakis gave him an ultimatum of promotion or your job and that he will get rid after next week and appoint a new man who will have the opportunity of a whole preseason and a transfer window of his own players.

Here's hoping :D

Championship standard football isn’t particularly good, that’s true.

Norwich are good to watch, but they have a very expensive team. Watford are masters of the clean sheet, which would infuriate the gung ho advocates on here. Brentford have a possession style which can be easy on the eye when it clicks. Bournemouth should be better than they are with their expensive team. Other than them, the football is of a low standard; lots of misplaced passes and tight attritional games.

Personally, I’m always happy with an away clean sheet, even though we should have won it.

Reading try to play good football on a modest budget, Swansea too although in their final year of PL payments. I would say a few of the mid table teams look better than us but I agree not by a massive amount. Think there is a big gap between how the top 7 have played and the rest though and bridging that gap is difficult but Barnsley have shown it can be down without spending millions.
We look so slow and ponderous on the ball though, I know Sabri’s tactics got found out eventually but we always looked a threat counter attacking at pace last season, we seem to have totally lost that.
No Im not happy with a 0-0 against a frankly terrible opponent.

Barnsley are an appalling side. Great respect to them for finding a way of playing to gate crash the top six, but they’re like a gergenpress version of the old Wimbledon. All shithousing and set pieces. Good luck to them, but I wouldn’t hold them up as a role model for footballing style.

I'm confused though I thought all the other teams were amazing to watch playing fast flowing thrilling football? Must be an off day

Most teams in the Championship play turgid, attritional football.  Watched tons of Quest/EFL this year and I'm not sure where all this 'thrilling' football is.

There are a few exceptions, but they've kept their manager for several seasons, got promoted to the Premier twice and can afford the players to get 'fast flowing' football as they demonstrated by nuking Forest 2:0 inside 20 minutes.

SA.

it is about scoring goals, we've forgotten what goals are, changing approach to score goals, create a style or at least occassionally set up purely to win, there was nothing at risk today, there were no excuses to bore the whole fking city and we would all of been delighted to of lost 4.3, it would of suited everyone, except H0.0ton

CH will not finish top 4 next season, maybe bottom 4 if you want to consider the facts

Bottom 4? Only in a bizzaro universe where we still had Sabri as 'coach.' Try putting some money on that down at the bookies.

Facts?  There's a plenty.  Check Grabban's form or Lolley's under Sabri.  Check the team's stats post Leeds.  Check out the amount of injuries to the spine of this side this year.  Grabban.  Sow.  Worrall.  Lolley.  Go ahead.  And if Grabban aint going to score.  Check the stats of our '2nd' striker.  Who brought him in, again?

Check who was in charge of recruitment last Summer.  Check out Forest's pre-season compared to the opposition.  ('Delusional' another 'D' word for you.  Top 4?  That's what happens when you post if when pished.  Losing 4:3?  I'm sure Keegan would approve.  There aren't many games like that in the Championship anymore.  Most are tight games.  And in that context, Hughton has already got one half of the Forest equation solved.  He's taken a 'sh*t' team and improved goals conceded which was going to send Forest down.  Forest have one of the tighter defences outside the top 5.  Which means, with any decent goalscoring recruitment next season, Forest have a real chance of being top 6.)

Du-oH.  But doncha have to recruit players like that?  Goal scoring goalscorer? Not something you can coach into players.  Any football fan or armchair pundit knows it's about scoring goals.  Even pished ones.

Grabban's form had started to drop under Sabri (if you were paying attention.). He's had 3 significant injuries this season.  We had our value out of him.  We pretty much flogged him for the last two seasons.  This season was our 'reward.'  That he's scored 6 is a minor miracle.  He always did need 2-3 chances to score one goal.

You want Hughton's side to score goals.  And what striker's did Hughton bring in last Summer?  (How many decent strikers did Forest bring in under Sabri?  When was the last time Forest brought in a decent striker?)

Take your time, sonny.

Glorified kick and rush side.  They've made full use of the sub' system (under the present circumstances) to play and sustain a high octane kick and rush game.  Yes.  They have a couple of good players.  They rolled a '6' with their striker and they had the 'dependable' (is he?  Always?) Mowitt with some supply.  I guess in regard those two players regads they were luckier than Forest's recruitment.

Maybe Barnsley used a different dart board.

Didn't Wednesday thump Forest 4-1 at the City Ground under Sabri?
