Nottingham Forest - Aston Villa

Cooper started with 4 players from last year, and 4 who cost nowt or next to nowt.
The only 3 new signings who cost £ were Freuler, MGW and Dennis.

Thats a lot of investment on the bench or not even in the squad.

Freuler motm btw.
Reminded me of McGovern doing the little things that are so important but always gets overlooked.

Totally agree. I hope Freuler now cements his place because he's only going to get better.

Got to agree, only 1 i see forcing way in is Mangala. I think Cooper rates Cook and McKenna probably our best defender (when not making ridiculous passes).

McKenna has done that once - he was player of the year for a reason and that was with BJ and Spence tearing it up and Yates turning into a goal scoring midfielder.

I do think the pace of Niakhate will help - and don’t won’t the more progressive 3412 to be dispensed with totally for the season!

Not having a pop DRF but I didnt see that from him. Thought he was better and less off the pace but what are the little things that get overlooked?
I thought he was described as the “conductor of the orchestra” or something like that. Havent seen anything of the sort as yet. Thought he more got away with it because Villa were pretty slow and predictable in their build up play.

There was a reason Villa were slow at n possession- our strength has been fast counters. It’s where we got the free kick for our goal. Also, we played a deep block cutting of passing lanes which worked incredibly well. I think cooper and the players deserve a bit of credit in making Villa look as poor as they did. Granted they are not in good form but their starting 11 on paper was light years ahead of ours- especially if you add up EPL appearances of each team.

I don't think Wooza and Yates are captains because they're locals. They both have captain qualities in their own right. You can question why they were made captain when neither might play on any particular day, that's a different matter, but they have leadership capability imo.

You're not going to name someone as captain signed in the same window who you've not even seen play are you? Plus does he even speak English?! Surely being able to communicate with his teammates is a key attribute for a captain? (My apologies to Remo and Niakhate if they can in fact speak English!)

I think a Captain position is earned- it’s the player that others look too. Not just the one that shouts. A modern football club captain has a lot of off-field responsibility too.

Also, lots of inspirational characters in the dressing room (so long as egos aren’t too big) can only be good.

Agree with that, leadership takes many forms. A lot of people questioned why Grabban was captain but that became clear last year, Cooper always said when Grabs said something everyone listened, he didnt have to be shouting. Plus there was the behind the scenes stuff and the mentoring of Davies etc.
Having said that I would say a decent command of the language helps. Also think Worrall remains a good choice as someone who knows what it means to play for the club.
