End Of Season Awards - wassy04 - 23-05-2023

I feel like we need some awards threads, so figured I'd get the ball rolling. Suggested awards:

Player of the Season
Young player of the season
Breakout player of the season
Comeback player of the season
Performance of the Season
Goal of the Season
Best Signing
Worst Signing
The Diakhaby Award for worst player of the Season

Happy to sack off the negative ones btw, just think some of them can be pretty funny too.

Anyway, thought I'd put the suggestions out first rather than spam the forum with polls. Sniff if you're happy I can set up the above?

Player of the Season - MGW. For his all-round impact on the team.
Young player of the season - Johnson. He's blown hot and cold a little bit but has contributed some vital goals.
Breakout player of the season - This is tricky as a few players have really improved as the season went on. We've not had what I'd call a true breakout player (like Ferguson at Brighton for example) so I'll go for Danilo as he's the closest thing I can think of to that.
Comeback player of the season - Aurier. Not a comeback for us but a really good comeback to the Premier League.
Performance of the Season - Arsenal at home. Yes we only had 18% possession but, under massive pressure in the context of the match, we never looked like conceding and looked dangerous every time we broke.
Goal of the Season - This was close between Wood vs. Man City and Danilo vs. Southampton, but as the finish was better for the second one that gets my vote.
Best Signing - Over the whole season it has to be MGW.
Worst Signing - Shelvey. Ayew might not have contributed much but at least he didn't risk upsetting the applecart.
The Diakhaby Award for worst player of the Season - I don't want to be mean to anyone who played so I'll say Omar Richards.

I thought this would be tough but I think I agree with most of them! I'm not sure on player of the season, feels like MGW will edge it mainly because he didn't get injured. I'd still be inclined to vote Yates (with bias), Felipe, Danilo, Brennan, Aurier and Taiwo are also in the running though. Certainly if not player of the season, it's hard to argue that Taiwo or Yates as most valuable player given our results with them and then the drop off without them. (Maybe we need that award too!)

Player of the Season. MGW
Young player of the season - Brennan
Breakout player of the season - Danilo
Comeback player of the season - Felipe
Performance of the Season - Brighton at Home
Goal of the Season - Wood v Man City
Best Signing - MGW
Worst Signing - Richards
The Diakhaby Award for worst player of the Season - Shelvey

RE: End of Season Awards - Redgirl - 23-05-2023

I agree with most but for me the Breakout Player has to be Yates, he has improved beyond all expectations and has become so important to the team.

RE: End of Season Awards - Plymouth red - 23-05-2023

Player of season - all round contribution and consistency it has to be mgw
Young player - johnno - struggled in last third of season but will get better. He was playing at league one level two years ago.
Breakout - awoniyi - just feel that he was acclimatising just before his injury and his role in staying up is worthy of award. I don't think we stay up unless he is fir in those last 5-6 matches. Could be epic for us next season.
Comeback - Worrall- written off as not good enough but showed his class in those final matches
Performance of season - arsenal - very little possession but did not give them a sniff of goal
Goal of season - danilo v Southampton
Best signing - mgw
Worst signing - would say Richards but feel it is harsh on the player - ultimately our medical staff should have spotted it. Therefore, for expectation v reality, it has got to be lingard. Turned up on the podgy side and never did much.
The diakhaby award for worst player - shelvey

RE: End of Season Awards - Salvatore Matrecano - 23-05-2023

Player of the Season. MGW
Young player of the season Danilo pips Johnson
Breakout player of the season Yates, showed he can be a PL player
Comeback player of the season Aurier, was convinced he was one who would never play and be sold to Oly!!
Performance of the Season. Liverpool. Under huge pressure, Cooper was a goner had we lost and deservedly won the game.
Goal of the Season. Wood vs Man City
Best Signing. Felipe on a free outstanding. MGW most important.
Worst Signing. Worst value has to be Wood even though Im not writing him off
The Diakhaby Award for worst player of the Season. Lingard or Shelvey cant decide

RE: End of Season Awards - tugger2018 - 23-05-2023

Worst Signing - wood
The Diakhaby Award for worst player of the Season - richards

MGW confirmed player of the season.

No surprise in that.

RE: End Of Season Awards - RetroRed - 29-05-2023

I think there should be an award for most interesting or informative poster for this Season on this forum - just for a bit of fun!
