I couldn’t see that he had a thread of his own and with him being flavour of the week I thought I’d share his interesting interview:
Nottingham Forest striker Lyle Taylor says the past year has been one of the hardest he has experienced in football.
After joining the Reds in the summer of 2020, the former Charlton Athletic man’s first season at the City Ground did not pan out as he had hoped.
Taylor struggled for form and regular game time, while Forest struggled for results - first under Sabri Lamouchi and then under Chris Hughton.
The latter was axed last month after a dismal start to the current campaign, with his replacement, Steve Cooper, having transformed the team’s fortunes.
Taylor bagged a stoppage time brace at Bristol City on Tuesday night to make it four wins in a row for Cooper’s side.
It was a moment to celebrate after a period when the 31-year-old has come in for criticism from fans and pundits, as well as being on the receiving end of abuse online and in person.
“The manager has instilled a belief in the boys and told the boys how good they are, as individuals and as a team,” Taylor said.
“I think all of the belief had been slowly drained out of the changing room, just from a results point of view and a struggle with no fans over the last year.
“I’ll be honest, it’s been one of the hardest years of my footballing career. It’s just not gone the way I dreamed it would go.
“The manager has come in and there’s a new lease of life.
“There’s a few senior players now and a lot of young blood. I think the mix is very, very good.
“We’ve got good senior players who are good pros - (Jack) Colback, me, Grabbs (Lewis Grabban), Bongy (Gaetan Bong) and (Joe) Lolley. Good pros who do it right. We train properly and we prepare properly.
“You’ve got those in the middle, like (Ryan) Yates, Wozza (Joe Worrall) and Scott McKenna, who are good pros. And then you’ve got the young lads who are learning their way.
“It’s a very honest group and a hard-working group.
“There’s no end to what this group can do, simply because of how hard-working and honest the boys are.”
Last term, Taylor made 42 appearances in the Garibaldi and scored five goals.
Asked about it being his hardest year, he told NottinghamshireLive: “Honestly, it’s been really bad, it’s been really tough.
“But you never get or expect any sympathy as a footballer; you’re not going to get it. It is what it is.
“We are strong. Invariably, the majority are stronger than the average person because of what we have to deal with.
“People might not necessarily understand that. But having seen what real life is and having seen what football life is, I can tell you that footballers are some of the strongest-willed and strongest-minded people you will come across.
“It’s not just me, a lot of the boys have struggled in the last year.
“To keep your head, to keep plugging away, to keep going and going, has been difficult. It’s not just been difficult for me; I’ve had conversations with other boys and they’ve said exactly the same thing.
“Don’t get me wrong, it’s been difficult for everyone in the last two years. I will never claim to put myself in someone else’s shoes and say, ‘I’ve struggled as much as you or more than you'. Some people have lost jobs and some people have lost family members.
“But we have all struggled.
“It’s just about being a bit understanding that footballers are people, we are human, and we all struggle.
“There’s the online side of it, there’s all sorts - you go shopping in Sainsbury’s and someone says, ‘will you get out of my club’.
You’re like, ‘Jesus Christ, just give me a chance, you’ve not even seen me play that much’.
“Things like that happen. You go out to a bar and someone shouts a comment across the bar. I’m not going to say it’s a Forest fan or this or that, it could have been a Derby fan for all I know.
“But at the end of the day, we are humans, the same as everyone else. We feel things, we struggle, we succeed.”
Taylor has had to bide his time this season, too.
He is yet to start a game under Cooper, with an in-form Grabban proving tough to dislodge from the team.
But he certainly made an impact from off the bench at Ashton Gate, potentially giving the manager a selection headache for Sunday’s clash with Fulham.
“I have knocked on the manager’s door. Not from the point of, ‘gaffer, I should be playing’, because Grabbs and Brennan (Johnson) have been on fire,” he said.
“I was speaking to Lolley about it when we were warming up. How do you take a player out of the team who has scored a goal a game, got assists and is leading the line? You just can’t.
“It’s a case of me sitting there... not being happy about it - don’t get me wrong, I’m a footballer, I want to play and I want to do my job, to play well for the team. But you have to sit there, bite your tongue and wait and wait and wait until the opportunity comes. When it does, you have to be ready.
“The manager said to me at the end of the game, ‘that’s a life lesson, that is, because you’ve done everything right, you’ve been at it in training, your head has not dropped, and when the chance comes, you have grabbed it’.
“This isn’t a me thing; this is a team thing.
“It says it all when you see the celebrations. I was at the bottom of it with Grabbs slapping me in the face. That’s what it means. You see how happy we are as a team. When one of us succeeds, we all succeed.”

His interview on the radio on Tuesday night was excellent too, he is obviously a bright lad and deep down cares. I admit I am biased against him because I find it very hard to accept how he treated Charlton. Before anyone comes up with his mitigating circumstances, consider how you would feel if Brennan Johnson was to sign a pre contract agreement with another club, go on strike and refuse to play before leaving on a free with the result that Forest are relegated. Yes I know season 19/20 was unique but it leaves a very sour taste for me.
Anyhow he is here and I hope he can find some form, goodness knows we need a back up striker. Im sure he is a confidence player and I reckon the previous manager may have sucked that out of him. He could use a fair bit of coaching on his positional play too, hope he can improve.

Hasn't Lee Bowyer said recently that Taylor's a confidence player who needs to be told how good he is all the time? He must know the guy better than most.
I've always been prepared to give underperforming players the benefit if the doubt. We've seen it time and time again, a player falls out of favour but for one reason or another comes back and turns out to be decent. Fox, Watson, Johnson snr are examples off the top of my head. However I've got to say I'd pretty much given up on Taylor after his performances last season but his goal against Coventry gave me fresh belief that he has something. It was a goal we'd not seen at our club for quite a few years, a winger beats a man for pace, sticks a beautiful cross in the box and the striker gets in there anticipating the chance. That's what's Taylor's game, not holding the ball up with his back to the goal 30 yards out while a couple of midfielders try to get involved. I'm pleased to see he still feels content and is contributing to the side even if not getting many minutes. He's gone up in my estimation after reading that.

I have been one of many who hasn’t rated Taylor and I do think people are being very quick with their change of mind.
Before I continue I would like nothing more than him to be successful to show the quality he has shown at other clubs.
I do think people are being very quick to change their minds of him. I have seen a lot of posts of People claiming we don’t need a new striker now or claiming he is now some sort of super star. He played 10 minutes in which he offered very little. He scored a pen and a tap in from a yard out that fell to him out of sheer luck. Yes he was in the right place but let’s give him time before we start piling pressure on him. I’m willing give him another chance but don’t necessarily think he is our long term answer.
Taylor has been woeful for a year. He has been woeful when playing this season. He has spent more time rolling on the floor flapping his arms in his season with us than Emile Heskey did in his whole career. 1 10 min cameo does not prove he is now a different player... it should however mean that fans give him another opportunity to show what he can do.
Despite his performances for us no player should be subjected to abuse especially in their private lives. Unfortunately there are a sad few who don’t carry their brain cell with them all of the time.
