Which teams are worse than us?

Do you think another manager would've kept us up with these injuries?

Don't ignore the question please.

Wassy, Everton were a basket case. Change manager for someone who knows what their doing and bang, they look competitive. Same for Villa, ManUtd. It can, sometimes, make a difference.

Yes I agree they look better. However, they were 18th when he took over and now they're joint 18th. So even Dyche has made almost no impact.

Come on, hes made a huge impact upon them. They were a basket case under Lampard and now they have a huge chance of escaping. You're being deliberately ingenious there I think.

So the whole crux of this argument is that if the club and manager is a basket case then a new manager can improve them.

You are implying Cooper is a basket case? Im not saying he is the new Guardiola and agree he has made mistakes but he definitely isn’t a basket case either. He is way better than all those managers you are referring to who were sacked.

Therefore is there a manager out there realistically who would improve us? Im saying no.

I think they've played better I agree but apparently results are all that matter according to some on here, regardless of context.

The point was also that even with what most consider a huge impact, they're still in the same position that they were when Lampard left, so what is the point?

No, Cooper's not a basket case. Hes just made quite a few errors on top of having to learn the league as well as dealing with the injury list from hell. As I said earlier, there was a case for Dyche early on but not now. Cooper, to his credit changed it post Leicester away and things improved. He tried something different today which interested me but in the end we got the same old result.

So I'm Cooper in atm. But I'm pragmatic. If we still look poor after 7 or 8 games next season then I'll be in the Cooper out camp.

RE: Stevie Cooper - zicorice - 08-04-2023

Losing Cooper could potentially take us back in 18 months to being how we've been for majority of last 23 years. Others may disagree in "the moment" but step back and think really carefully what you wish for.

We need more Wassy in our lives at present.

Zico, can this team get out of the championship next season?

Horvath
Williams Niakhate Wozza Felipe Toff
Danillo OBrien Yates
MGW
Awoniyi.

We may have a shot at keeping Lingard if he fancies getting sorted out of the spotlight for a realistic wage. And there's McKenna, Boly, Biancone, Colback, Shelvey, Scarpa, Surridge, Wood all to come in. Its one hell of a championship side really, even when players like Lodi and Hendo disappear.

So it wouldnt be like the last 23 years really. Or shouldn't.

That team isn't a million miles of being top end of a Championship. I'd be looking to offload a couple more and be looking for some more pace. I think Boly has to play - when fit- as he is far better than Niakhate or Joe. Id try and cash in on Niakhate anyway tbh.  Can't see MGW staying, Scarpa could be a standout in Championship in 10 role. I'd prefer a more experienced and pacey RWB to be honest.

Needs Cooper to stay and to pull it all together though for me, otherwise it could go bad very quickly. We've looked good on paper plenty of times only to be sh1t on the actual grass.

I dont necessary agree it needs Cooper to be successful in the championship. That squad is easily as good as the West Brom, Norwich, Watford etc sides that have come down and gone back up in refent times. Maybe even as good as last season's Fulham side if we get a goal scorer in. Cooper's Championship CV is excellent and if he cant get a decent tune out of them from the off then he's the problem and he's toast.

I'm not so sure how good some of our squad are tbh. Wing backs look a potential weakness for instance. If Yates gets injured, wheres the drive coming from. Also lacks pace.

We've got the parachute money and the Brennan money too to tide us over and fill the odd gap. Disagree about the wing backs. Toff and Williams were up there as among the best in the league last season and there'd need to be incoming back ups to replace Aurier and Lodi (assuming Richards doesnt actually exist).

RE: Stevie Cooper - Paplane - 08-04-2023

If Cooper does stay on, I've got hope MGW and Brennan might be willing to stick around, at least until the Jan window. They're on decent money now, even with a Championship downgrade clause taken into account. Six months out of their career for two young players isnt so much of a sacrifice. If they're both happy and settled, and can see the core of the squad staying put then they might fancy staying.

MGW has England aspirations, will he get picked from a championship team.
