Come on, we have seen it a thousand times before.
It is nothing unusual.
Pure instinct even ex player Lee Hendrie said so and he should know.

I trust JWP's instinct and experience.
He had a good game yesterday and set up the goal. Disappointed he misses the palace game because a set piece might separate us but I have no issue with his performance yesterday.
We need to get off players back.

I remember watching a Scotland match once and Richard Gough was playing centre-half.
A ball through the middle bounced in front of him and over his head. He stuck his hands up and caught it! Got a red card for deliberate handball and stopping a goalscoring opportunity.
Sometimes I think players just can't stop themselves.

A Southampton player heard a whistle in the crowd, bent down and picked the ball up in the area and the ref gave Forest a penalty

How does that work?
You only get a second to decide whether to pass, shoot or cross, or to make a tackle or not. It's the same logic for this, his natural reaction on a yellow card should not be to take another one.
If he'd kicked Jackson instead to stop the counter on a yellow, it'd be just as bad. We were looking like we could score a winner before that and then had to sit deep (although we did still create some great chances so did they though).
To be fair Wassy, if Gerrard had just done that when he slipped vs Chelsea, he might have a league winners medal!

I've no issue with what happened. His options were let the player get away and get a 1 on 1. Let the player get away and possibly see a defender bring him down or the keeper bring him down either giving away a penalty or more dangerous free kick as well as garner a straight red...
Or fall on the ball and either give a free kick in a non threatening location and get sent off or perhaps the ref will give the benefit of the doubt and you get away with it.
As for our response... it was fantastic and still took the game to Chelsea. No way we would have done that last season.
My only criticism is that we are not able to kill teams off with a second when on top. Another good result

Absolutely agree, his teammates let him down with the first yellow. He was incandescent with how much they dropped off and left him with no option.

Agreed.
I really like him, no fuss and barely gets a mention but for the right reasons.
If we can get on board with the set pieces we'll have a bargain on our hands.

I suppose it wasn’t a straight red Cus JWP could protest that losing his footing he extended his arms to cushion his fall and just happened to handle at the same time, he certainly gave that impression with his body language, whether that was to try and sway the ref or not.
Do you reckon there’s any world where he gets away with a caution, or is it always a yellow regardless of if he’s already on one?
Also whilst watching the game on telly yesterday, the reaction by the Chelsea fans(that they panned to anyway) when they scored was mundane! Just clapping, no emotion in the face, no limbs must be awful being a Chelsea fan

So what if he had used his judgment and allowed Jackson to run on and score the winner?
Where I agree with you is that I don’t think it was instinct from JWP at all, think he made a deliberate decision to grab the ball, one he made instantly.
Everyone is making it out like 100% certainty Jackson would've scored, there was a covering defender (hence the yellow) and he's not that great anyway.
Even if he does score we have 11 players on the field to get an equaliser. Maybe it makes sense in the 90th minute but there was a long way to go still at that point given we had that massive stoppage.
I think the reaction would be completely different if Chelsea had taken one of the chances they created after the red card.

Every Chelsea player who stepped on the field should've been red carded.
If Jackson does that on the pitch while he's playing then it's a straight red, no question. Why then does the fact there's a ruck make any difference? If anything it's worse as he had no right to be on the pitch in the first place. He's a very lucky boy imo.
