Or devils advocate, a bit like Forest are some of these overhyped players not as good as we like to think and are actually playing to their ability? Align that to a pragmatic and cautious manager you have a team that can pick up results and for the most part not get beaten, but at the business end of a tournament they will come up short.

Not sure that's the case, we've got the PL player of the year, the German league player of the year and the La Liga player of the year. We have three maybe four players that could legitimately claim to one of if not the best in their position in the world. Plus an avalanche of other talent waiting in the wings that have had excellent seasons in the prem.
We're clearly underachieving performance wise with what we've got. These guys are winners at club level (apart from Kane!)
