RE: Nottingham Forest - Newcastle United - DR Forest - 18-03-2023

Agreed zico
2 minutes from a very valuable point. Let’s hope the rest c**k it up tomorrow

But on the plus side, here are the other positives-
Johnson in with physio is all part of the plan.I Expect him to be withdrawn from wales squad and to stay for ‘treatment’ over the 2 week break.
Yates pops his shoulder every other game. He’ll be fine for the next game but expect surgery over the summer.
Niakhate is indeed ring rusty. It’s been 7 months. He’ll be fine after the break
Awoniyi will be back after the break
Kouyate will be back after the break
Lingard won’t get near this team again

MGW was very poor last night and we struggled to keep the ball, although Newcastle press is good, at times the passing was abysmal. Ayew and Felipe played well, the Worrall hate may now subside again.

People wanting to blame the ref etc we've got no one to blame but ourselves.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned this but Ryan Yates attempt to block the cross for Newcastle's first goal was as feeble as it gets.

And what was Cooper doing waiting until the 95th minute to bring Scarpa on when MGW offered nothing all night.

I am not confident that we can turn this around unfortunately and I have been thinking that way since West Ham away.

I'm trying to comfort myself today by remembering just how much fun it was in the championship plus more games there. Can't really pretend that it's ok to go down but I think that's where we're heading. Apart from one magic moment it was hard to watch last night.

If anything I thought the ref was lenient (both ways) and ruling the goal out for offside could have gone either way.

As you say MGW offered nothing but seems unsubbable. Yes he's our most expensive player but he's also young and will have good and bad games.

RE: Nottingham Forest - Newcastle United - Salvatore Matrecano - 18-03-2023

Agree MGW had his worst game for a long time but was playing a deeper role behind the front 3.

No Scarpa wouldn’t have done better IMO

I think MGW,  no matter how poorly he might be on any given night, has that magic moment in his locker plus works his nuts off regardless. So it's a tough one which I kind of get.

Looking back with hindsight, I'd have said sub him after 10 minutes or rest him, same for Shelvey, Jonno and Niakhate, but SC doesn't have that luxury.

RE: Nottingham Forest - Newcastle United - Salvatore Matrecano - 18-03-2023

Shelvey and Niakhate were both blowing out their arses near the end. The subs Cooper should have made in my opinion were bring on Worrall and Colback and hang on to the point but accept he would have been criticised for it.

RE: Nottingham Forest - Newcastle United - DR Forest - 18-03-2023

I agree about MGW
Two really poor games on the trot.
But that’s what you get with young players.
‘Big spending’ Nottingham Forest can actually only afford to buy foreign players, old freebies like Lingard or ayew, or young potential like MGW and Danilo. All are a gamble.

I’m updating my ‘reasons to be cheerful’ list.
Of course we are struggling. Of course cooper needs to earn his corn.
But the two week break now gives us a chance to reset because we can-

Declare Johnson unfit for wales and get him fit
Get Yates fit
Get Niakhate match fit
Get Awoniyi fit
Get Kouyate fit
Get McKenna fit and maybe
Get Bolly fit????

Get morale up and reinforce the plan.

Unfortunately now I think we need 4 points minimum from the games against wolves and Leeds
Pressure is mounting, no doubt.

RE: Nottingham Forest - Newcastle United - Floridared - 18-03-2023

I watched the game this morning not being able to watch last night and turning off all the sports channels in order not to know the result.
One thing is clear, Newcastle are a very good team as demonstrated by their position in the league, have quality players and deserved to win.
They had time and space all over the pitch, showed quality passing and movement, were quick and mobile.
We , I thought were combative in midfield but lacked creativity. I didn't think the substitution of Yates made us any less combative and it was good to see him back. Defensively I thought that Fillipe was immense on the whole and apart from the penalty c**k up Niakhate was decent but not ready.
Shelvy, apart from some good long range passes, was ponderous and gave away silly free kicks in poor positions. I agree that MGW was off again and contributed to the lack of creativity. We were again toothless up front but Ayew did well.
Going to be a difficult run in and I can't see us staying up, the question is if we do go down will we come straight back up??

Good summary Floridared and sometimes we see things more clearly the following day.

RE: Nottingham Forest - Newcastle United - ozzyten10 - 18-03-2023

We’ve had a bit of luck at home- it ran out on Friday - I thought we did enough for a draw personally and was frustrated with the ref buying everything that Newcastle did in the dark arts. The pen was a sickener and he didn’t even need to do it - not scoring from there! Hopefully we get a bit of the rub of the green for some of our away games… need to stop giving away pens - that’s 3 against in last 3 games!
