Here's a theoretical question. Suppose we have a stinking start and are firmly routed in the bottom three after say 10 games. We look every bit like a relegation side. Does Marinakis sack Cooper in an attempt to cling on to the precious premier league spot, or does he trust the man who got him there to sort it out?
I say he sacks him.

Its a good question Pap, Im Sure some will tell us off for being negative and that’s pretty understandable, I mean if we cant be happy right now we never will be.
My guess is he gets until January at minimum. If we are cast adrift at the bottom at that point does he stick or twist? EM’s history says he would twist and give someone new a transfer window. Dont kid yourself that the Cooper love in would last in that situation either, social media would be full of out of his depth comments.
Anyhow it wont happen, comfortably mid table finish this season ready for an assault on European places next.

Yep, we need to be ready to aggressively shut down that talk at any opportunity. Owners listen to crowd reaction. If it was me I'd guarantee Cooper his job for next season now, as long as we beat Derby's points total

I agree about the fan base. The usual suspects would crawl out and start criticising everyone and everything. Re Marinakis, i think now he's in the prem he'll be wanting to stay there. Sentimentality for Cooper wont come into it if the place is at risk.

I personally say you stick for two reasons.
1) after what he did this season, the minimum he deserves is a season and if we get relegated, I cannot think of a better manager to get us back immediately
2) how many times has a newly promoted side struggled, sack their manager and then still get relegated. Look at Sheffield utd - had they stuck with wilder, chances are they would have been challenging top two with the squad they had. Obviously if Cooper got us back up and struggled again then that might be a time to reconsider.

Exactly, and generally the teams that have stuck have done well the following year. Dyche took Burnley up, even Hughton stayed and got promoted again following season!

You'd hope that the data analysis the club now bases its decisons upon would demonstrate that Cooper is the man to get you out of the Championship and hence its folly to sack him. But things get desperate when football matches are being lost and people are under pressure.

Yep Watford, Burnley and Leeds all did it with established managers and it didn't work particularly well. Leeds stayed up due to the others being worse rather than being good

Lets turn this discussion around. If Cooper does well, say gets us comfortable mid table, then next season has us pushing up further, would one of the established top half prem clubs, over even a top foreign club come in for him? And would we be enough of a draw for him to stay?
