RE: Stevie Cooper - ozzyten10 - 03-04-2023 I really wanted to give a couple of players a rollicking on saturday! Dennis, Williams, Awonyi for example all deserved a bollocking. Awonyi just didn’t run to cover the left- Williams kept getting caught under the ball and Dennis twice should have but the after burners on when clean through and we would be even talking about squaring it. The move to a back 5 wasn’t a problem, keeping danillo on as a 10 or false 9 was. There is obviously so much riding on staying in the league and I for one won’t argue with the backing from above. Injuries have been the biggest issue for me and many have been out of our hands. Woods and Shelvey were awful signings in retrospect and if coopers choice he is culpable as anyone. Our form since they come in has been woeful and they have disrupted the fluidity we were getting at home and have made zero difference away. Cooper is the best thing to happen to us for a long time. I hope we keep him and only hope his relationships with players and fans go a long way in our remaining games. It's not an agenda, I've generally been very pro-Marinakis personally. I'm happy to agree that it could easily be media chat making it all sound worse than it really was, I hope so anyway. The last point I disagree with, we kept Cooper in a job once and Sat there was a lot of Cooper specific support, it's making it much harder to sack him. Honestly. can't think of many situations where the manager has had this much support yet been on the brink of the sack (allegedly) RE: Stevie Cooper - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 03-04-2023 (03-04-2023, 09:56 AM)wassy04 Wrote:(03-04-2023, 09:46 AM)Sniffer Dog (Admin) Wrote: I don't think there is any owner of a football club who doesn't speak with his coach is there? Is that what happened? I would like some evidence before jumping to such a conclusion. More likely 2+2=5. I think I would do the same if I was the owner to be honest as football is such an emotional roller coaster for all involved. Lets hope we start to get results soon but its a tough ask as we seemed have slept walked into this situation by not being proactive some time back, many on here could see this but the powers that be (SC and the coaching staff) have been a little to laid back to seek a positive reaction and thought we had more time, not the case I am afraid. My point wasn't that he had no right to do it, it was that it's clearly not good practise. There is no industry in the world where the top boss coming in and providing a telling off is not going to undermine everyone else. There's just not precedent for this being a successful way to run a premier league team. More than happy for it just to be media conjecture if that is the case, I agree it is unfair to paint that as fact. This ^ I think it sums it up nicely. RE: Stevie Cooper - ozzyten10 - 03-04-2023 He had a go at MGW and BJ who seemed to be celebrating according to PT. I get it - a 1-1 draw wasn’t good enough- but it was a better performance than of late and they were jammy. A bollocking does no one harm- especially if it’s not coops- could create a siege togetherness mentality for Tuesday! Erm, there are plenty of industries and companies where top bosses have give company wide rollockings and it often does provide a good response as everyone suddenly recognises that they have to pull their fingers out!! Also, a football club really is a small business with very few people between the levels. It's not like if Steve Jobs had gone into an Apple shop in Leeds and rollocked the cleaner. RE: Stevie Cooper - nffc93 - 03-04-2023 Listening to Garibaldi Podcast, i'm getting Cooper is going vibes. Maybe that's just me reading into things RE: Stevie Cooper - Mcforest - 03-04-2023 Would need to be some appointment from the big man at this late stage in the league. Just can't see who is out there better equipped to keep us up or if worse happens keeps the team together to go back up. In my opinion company wide rollockings belong to the 1980s and Gordon Ramsay. I personally didn’t see players do anything other than thank the crowd for their support but also agree we shouldn’t celebrate a draw. I didn’t see that, thought every one of the team buried themselves for the cause and most looked gutted at the end. As for the post match debrief between EM and Cooper I quoted Paul Taylor who I have a lot of respect for. He always chooses his words extremely carefully, never exaggerates in my opinion. His exact words were “Marinakis was disappointed with the substitutions…” To me that sounds like borderline interference and a warning not to do it again which I am uncomfortable with. Surely that depends on how the comment was delivered. Reading Twitter (which I know isn't the best gauge) there were a lot of fans disappointed with the substitutions as well. As a fan, Marinakis is as entitled to his opinion as any other fan. |
