RE: Current Players Thread - Username - 02-04-2024 You realise that each of those managers got sacked for underperforming right? RE: Current Players Thread - Mcforest - 02-04-2024 I can't find it but there was a comment about a box midfielder and i couldn't agree more with the current players we have at our disposal we should have looked at it. I can only suggest we didn't look at it because we have been poor retaining the ball and the box midfielder needs the team to keep the ball to move out from defence and also we bought FB's to act as wingers rather than to become CB's. Had the Nikahate at LB experiment had worked the one time we tried it wouldn't have surprised me to see us make steps in that direction. But a quick mark up shows what we could have looked like and i split the zones so you can see the lack of space available to teams if they turn over the ball. Also worth noting that players listed can and did do those roles for previous teams apart from Nico but as the boy has good pace and energy with both attacking and defensive mind so i would guess he could. We do have a player who did similar but he is just not getting to grips with the league and i couldn't trust him with getting back and doing the defensive part which is Sangare (who knows maybe one day??) it does make we wonder why we play the 4-2-3-1 the way we do with the full backs bursting forwards leaving the defensive line so open. But again if we retained the ball better or pressed higher up it gives us overloads in the same manner just further for players to run and bigger gaps when it goes wrong. Edit just so you know i am aware players are injured and can't play but players like wood up front could easy fit in and i would suggest someone like wood would receive more crosses this way. However isnt the point McForest is making above exactly what he was brought in to do and why we paid so much? Its not unreasonable to be disappointed at what we have seen to date. Before someone says it I don’t think Yates is the answer either. RE: Current Players Thread - Mcforest - 02-04-2024 I would totally agree with you Salv that we can feel frustrated we haven't see him do what he was doing elsewhere. But then i would also say we haven't played him in the way that made him one of of the most sort after players. I thought when he came in it meant a change in style, set up etc, but we didn't. However that shouldn't be a big issue as i then thought he would be good enough to take on a new role but again with so much chopping and changing with the team and what we were doing. I don't think any players stood a chance to become a team and work each other out because of it. It seems this season we just didn't have an identity or a clear plan for progression and that is on the managers to give the team that. RE: Current Players Thread - Sausage Roll - 03-04-2024 Funny how things turn out. Two of the signings fans were most dubious about - Williams and Wood - have arguably been our players of the season. Just shows, as Mangala's improvement at the start of this season did too, that it's not realistic to expect every player to hit the ground running. Hopefully we'll see Sangare kick on in a similar fashion next season. RE: Current Players Thread - wassy04 - 03-04-2024 (03-04-2024, 09:46 AM)Sausage Roll Wrote: Funny how things turn out. Very fair point, might be time to add Sels to that list too, a shorter time frame but seems to have stepped up since playing for Belgium (ironically isn't that what happened with Mangala). If we're playing the same style next year then Sangare will have to oust Yatesy from the team first. RE: Current Players Thread - Salvatore Matrecano - 03-04-2024 2 brief observations. 1. Danilo back to his best. Apparently he has started in all 4 of Nuno’s wins. Now add some consistency young man! 2. Turner getting a yellow. Good to see he still cares and wants the team to do well even though he has lost his place. Some sulk some get on with it, fair play to him. RE: Current Players Thread - Sausage Roll - 03-04-2024 #nffc news - Forest will trigger a contract option for Ola Aina. New one-year deal regarded as a formality. For clarity, leading scorer Chris Wood - who has scored eight goals in nine appearances - has another year on his contract. Deal up at end of 24/25 season ~ Percy. RE: Current Players Thread - Sausage Roll - 03-04-2024 Omar Richards assisted a goal (for Joao Carvalho!) for Oly tonight. |
